Good news on Cook

Quote:
Also talked to Chris Cook. Cast off, recovery on schedule, believes he will be back by end of season.

Chris Cook really began to step up and fill the role of the complimentary matchup cornerback to counter size on the boundary in this division. It's too bad he's missing so much time at a critical point in his development, so I'm looking forward to seeing how he rebounds when he returns.

If we are able to pull of the wins vs CHI, and are in the playoff picture for week 17 vs GB, hope he can play.

If we are out of the playoff picture around then, I would rather he just heal up and continue that throughout the off season

Cornerback Chris Cook appears as if he could be on track to return from a broken right arm for the Minnesota Vikings' game on Dec. 23 at Houston.

Cook was on the field for Thursday's practice, the first time he was eligible to practice since he suffered the injury on Oct. 26 while trying to tackle Tampa Bay halfback Doug Martin. Cook wore a protective cast on his arm.

Cook is eligible to return to the active roster on Dec. 20, eight weeks after his last game appearance, and thus could play against the Texans.

Houston likes big, tall receivers so that game would be a good one for Cook to return to. Cook is idefintely a key part of the defense going forward and has played well this year.

Well, with the interceptions by the rookie who replaced Chris Cook, how many are they behind the Viking model of a shut-down corner? Hmmn, must be some mistake. Chris Cook, future HOF shut down corner appears to have zero career INT's and zero seasons where he can stay on the field. How odd. Josh Robinson appears to have 2.

Well, at least we know Cook will never be involved in a tragedy like what happened in KC. I doubt Cook owns a gun or anything, and I'm sure he's received more counselling than KC was actively giving Jovan Belcher. It's a good thing the Vikings don't minimize domestic violence based on a potential to maybe be a decent player as that would be disgusting.

Chris Cook is better then Josh Robinson.
The best CBs on this team is Winfield and Cook.
Josh still gives up alot of big plays over the top.

Cook is one of the most underrated defensive players in the NFL. If he can stay on the field an entire season next year, I think he'll go noticed.

I think Cook is the best down field coverage CB this team has. He does a good job in using his long body to shield receivers and he seems much more adept at down field coverage than short zone coverage. Winfield is the opposite. I think Winfield struggles mightily if he has to run down field, but you keep him under 10 yards from the LOS, he has been exceptional. Eventually, Robinson is someone that needs to develop into a good all around CB, though he will probably struggle when asked to cover big, physical and tall CBs. Robinson is a better matchup for speed receivers who lack size and Cook is a better matchup for the big, jump ball type receivers.

Though the Vikes seem to play there CBs on sides rather than matchups so it probably makes little difference to have this discussion.

Ive noticed with Jefferson is that he does a great job in coverage in terms of positioning himself against the receiver and sticking with him tightly, but he struggles playing the ball and doesnt see it well. There were several times where Jefferson had picture perfect coverage just to mis judge a leap or a deflection that resulted in a completion. Jefferson seems much more natural as the inside CB. I dont think he has the skills to cover down field and play the ball. Jefferson seems to perform better when reading the QB and keeping things in front of him like an inside CB would be more likely to do. That deflection against the Cardinals comes to mind.
