Talk to Hester and see if he will redo his contract and take a pay cut. If he agrees, then make him the full time kick off and punt retrun specialist. Sign a another WR or draft one that can be a nice slot WR with some speed and can stretch the field. If he doesnt agree then we have to cut him.
People have to remember when your playing WR and have used alot of the gas in your tank to run routes, run fly routes, and take on blockers....that takes alot out of you...Then your asked to go return kicks and take it to the house everytime because your the best return man in the business....over the years your going to lose a step somewhere and he did...
Hester isnt a spring chicken anymore, he is getting up there in age and it was a mistake to make him a WR. Why break something that wasnt broken. The year we made him a WR was the year we saw a massive decline in his return numbers. Give him full time duties as a return man and find someone else to play WR. Hester can be used as a emergency WR in case of injury or something. |

Well, WR is going to need to be addressed in free agency or the draft yet again. The Bears need a slot receiver who can play the middle, push back safeties deep, or both. Unfortunately Hester hasn't produced, Bennett has struggled to stay healthy, and the team absolutely should not depend on Johnny Knox. Receiver is a huge need that many people are going to deny.
Regarding Hester specifically, he hasn't been productive at all on offense and he hasn't had a good year in the return game. It's a tough choice to make. _________________

I really think he's living off of name recognition and how he looks during the week at practice - which I'm sure is spectacular but when the intensity amps up, I think Hester no longer has the natural talent to make up for his mental flaws that he's displayed all throughout his career.
He's likely done in Chicago and it pains me to say because he was very exciting and a fun player to have but Goodell is changing the kick-off rules again so return men simply cannot be valued as much as we have in the past and Hester isn't nearly the return man he once was. It's in the Bears best interest to move on; unless he takes a significant pay-cut and they define his role as a strict kick-returner - hell, even rotational because Weems looked a lot better at times but honestly, I don't see him returning. The writing was on the wall when we signed Eric Weems, I feel. _________________ Newest Mock Draft .:. 1.11.13
