Wow.....its a shame we were not still in the race, because bringing him back could have meant something!

If Washburn and company cut ties with him, there isn't much hope for him. That was the only system he could get sacks in. He doesn't play the run well....so it's a shame all together.
He will get picked up by someone, but he has seen his best days most likely.

Eagles forum is rejoicing in him gone and hoping Washburn follows suit.

But.... The Titans should have given him a mega deal right?

Crazy.....

I don't remember anybody saying give him a mega deal. I do know, since he left we've been horrible in the pass-rush and haven't had a player with 10+ sacks. The Eagles were the dumb ones for giving him a mega deal.

What would bringing him back have meant? More penalties? More dumb poses? More celebrating a sack in the last five minutes of a game we're losing by three TDs?

Philly's personnel was never well-suited for the wide-9 and Babin is likely just the first step. Would not be surprised to see Washburn fired soon enough, as they simply don't have the defensive tackles or linebackers to make a system like that work.

Wash will probably end up in St. Louis. Or potentially here.

I can see the Lions Packers Bengals Colts and maybe Denver putting a claim in. I know Atlanta and prob Houston would love to have him but thats the price you pay i guess at being the best

And picked up by the Jags. Only one more stop to complete the tour of the AFC South.

Yep, so the Eagles have scrapped Washburn and his buddy Jason Babin.

We've seen Washburn's system which has been dubbed by the media and fans as the 'wide-9' run into some horrible problems this year.

Whether it's personnel, coaching, play calling... something went wrong.

As Tennessee fans who had Washburn, and Babin for that matter, what are your thoughts on his system? Is it good? Does it require dominant players? Is it a liability against the run? Does it exert pressure on the secondary when your linemen can't get to the quarterback?

It can work, and it's damn successful, but you need 2 major components or it will fail miserably.

1. Star DT: This pushes the pocket up, keeping the QB from stepping up past the DEs rushing. Also allows you to only rush 4 linemen and keep everyone else in coverage. Ex. Haynesworth.

2. Good LB core: Need run stoppers as everyone knows the wide-9 is vulnerable to the run. But since you're mostly rushing 4, they need to be good in coverage as well. Ex. Bulluck and Thornton
