On paper, the Saints, Bucs, Seahawks, and Redskins should lose. The Cowboys will probably win.
Interesting thing is, MN could lose to GB and assuming the teams above lose as well, MN really doesnt lose ground on the playoff hunt. At some point they need to start winning some games but as long as the competition keeps losing, maybe MN catches a few breaks. 9-7 could be good enough to make the playoffs depending on what TB and SEA do (assuming GB gets the #5 seed). |

Agreed. So if we win and the rest of the games finish as described above, the team records look like this:
7-5 Green Bay, Minnesota
6-6 Dallas, Seattle, Tampa Bay
5-7 New Orleans, Washington
If we lose, the records look like this:
8-4 Green Bay
6-6 Dallas, Minnesota, Seattle, Tampa Bay
5-7 New Orleans, Washington
Green Bay would clearly be in the driver's seat for the #5 seed if they beat us on Sunday. But we're still in the thick of things if things break right. _________________

Wow, what a difference one week makes as the season begins its 4th quarter.
It looks like NY, Atlanta and San Fran have their divisions under control.
So, it boils down to the NFC North winner and two wildcard teams. Mathematically, three teams could finish 10-6 in the NFC North ... that would be interesting, but highly unlikely.
Dallas will likely bow-out at 8-8, Seattle appears to have the best chance at a WC, but losing the corners may hurt their final lap, should they go 2-2, that gives the Vikes a glimmer of hope. Tampa has a good shot to climb the ladder too . . . and this is the team I expect to grab the final wildcard spot.
I'm assuming Green Bay and Chicago will win 2 or 3 games of their last 4 which would sow-up the division title and one wildcard. However, if the Pack or Bears goes 1-3 down the stretch, that puts them at 9-7 . . . which sounds great to me.
For the Vikes, it's nice there's at least some hope . . . but making mathematical possibility a reality will take substantially more guts and execution than they have provided the past 2 weeks. Unless they play flawless football, both offensively and defensively, the team and organization can only hang their hat on "well, we improved from last year." |

The problem for the Vikings is that they've already lost to Seattle, Tampa Bay and Washington. If one of those teams finishes 9-7, then the Vikings would need to go 4-0 the rest of the way in order to claim the last playoff spot.

Why are the Cowboys ahead of us? Because of their win over the Bucs? We both have losses to the Bears, Seahawks, and Redskins. _________________

We are tied with the Cowboys in conference record and don't have enough common games yet to count that tie breaker. So they could have a better strength of victory than us; if not, the next tie breaker is strength of schedule.
However, the Redskins should be ahead of us and the Cowboys. _________________

Seattle is ahead of us too, and if we finish 9-7 the Bucs would also have to lose one game as they hold the tie-breaker over us. _________________

Seattle and Tampa Bay are also ahead of us. |
I'm assuming Seattle gets the first Wildcard and we would get the second based off of this. Tampa is now a game behind, but I will do them also...
Bucs: Lose @ New Orleans, Win vs St. Louis, Win @ Atlanta. Record 8-8 _________________
