You obviously don't take them seriously enough. You forgot to include them with your post. Here, I'll fix that for you. Damn whippersnappers. Gotta learn 'em everything.

Anyone finished their Christmas shopping yet? What are your opinions on buying gift cards as Christmas/Hannukah presents?

Gift cards are a modern-day form of highway robbery. About 10% of them go unclaimed, which means the companies who sell them (and the government) make billions of $$$ (yes that's billion with a b) of dollars on unclaimed cards each year.
So what it comes down to is that a gift card is basically a 0% interest loan of the seller, with a 10% chance of not having to repay it. So it's not just a gift for the one who actually get's the card.
Personally, I don't like getting gift cards. It basically means the same as getting money (i.e. I couldn't be arsed to buy you a present), but with the artificial restriction of having to spend it at a certain chain, and within a certain time. Give me cash over gift cards any day, I'm sure most people feel the same. Or just get me a nice present. _________________

| I dont mind gift cards if its a store I commonly shop at. My family knows I buy a lot of my clothes from Banana Republic and when i was living in California, it was always the easiest form of present to send. with a gift card, it forces you to spend it at that store instead of getting cash where you may not actually use it on a gift for yourself, rather for rent and bills. |

My sister (not pictured) always asks for Amazon or Barnes & Noble gift cards for Christmas. Then she can buy whatever books she wants (she's a librarian and a huge reader). I agree with Kellerman about how cards seem to never get spent, but I guess if the person asks for one...

So I'm wondering what it'll cost to pay some movers to move me out of my 3 bedroom apartment and into a house in January.

Tell me about it! I keep opening it up, hoping to find some intellectually stimulating conversation regarding quantum mechanics or some similiar subject... _________________ "No one can disguise mediocrity better than Bill Belichick." |
