I wouldn't touch him. He's a bum. Plus he's basically a dumb and less athletic Keith Rivers. We have no use for him. _________________

Cant say i watch a ton of oakland film, but how could he be that bad? I thought i remembered good reviews on his rookie season. Loved him coming out of bama.
Our SAM lber spot has not been productive this season. Kiwi hasnt looked good standing recently. I like Rivers, but hes always been injured throughout his career and this year was no different. I think McClain could fit in this role.
I assume the talent is there and for whatever reason, hes not fitting in oakalnd. Its not like oakland is known for getting the most out of their guys. Moss comes to mind.
Seems like a jr type of move. We have a tendency to bring in early picks who havent worked out. Rolle, Bennett... |

Leading up to the 2010 draft, Rolando McClain was a popular choice in the mock drafts as going to the Giants. He (supposedly) would fill a big need for them, and was rated a mid-first-round guy. I was pretty much sold on him, from what I had read.
Jerry Reese and his staff of course stick to their Big Board and do not reach for position, at least in the first round. Hard to say if they would have taken Rolando, had he still been there for their pick. As is known, the Raiders sexily drafted the guy higher than he had been projected to go- eighth, was it? The Giants were (I thought) now forced to go for a Plan B first-rounder. To my disbelief and disgust they fell for some defensive end who had played only one season of major-college football, just because he could execute back-flips on this over-publicized video. Dumb move, I thought- this is football, not gymnastics!
And we all know how THAT worked out-! |

hes a better fit for a 3-4. Scratch that, he is only capable of playing in a 3-4. _________________

Glad to say that my number one choice in that draft was CJ Spiller. I really disliked McClain because I felt that the way the league was heading a 6'3" 255 pound linebacker would be a liability in coverage. Turns out he's a headcase too. Don't know if Reese would've taken him if he was available, but we dodged a bullet there. I think we ended up with the best player in that entire draft. _________________

I dunno ... Tebow was in that draft
Edit: Plus Gronk/Graham ... but their quarterbacks really make them great.
And if Jahvid Best wasnt so injury prone he would have been easily the best in the draft.
But I agree with you that JPP is the best player from that draft so far. _________________

He can shore up our run D.
blackburn has done great, but I did think McClain is a long term solution to the position as he is only 23 I believe.
It's all moot now given that he was suspended not cut. |

He is. Slow, often looked lethargic, jogged after the ball carrier, hit too high, was bad in coverage, couldn't shed blocks, always shot the wrong gaps. And as if that wasn't enough, he had an attitude problem and run ins with the law. One of the only players in the NFL I'd ever say that I wish nothing but the worst for. _________________
