Why not?
The Saints won’t retain Smith this offseason and Babin could represent a good veteran replacement with more pass rush ability in the short term while we target another pass rusher in the draft. Ellis is a bust and also won’t be back in 2013 and his release would open up more playing time for Akiem Hicks and Tom Johnson.
Yes, I understand that this team technically still has mild playoffs hopes but at some point we need to start thinking ahead.
Thoughts??? _________________

I think we can do both here. If Babin proves to fit Spags D-Line the offer him a 3 or 4 yr contract. Let Smith, Ellis, Shanle, Vilma and McBride go this offseason. _________________

If Spags feels Babin is a fit in his defense then Smith should be released and Babin signed. Smith will not be here next season and if Babin can prove to be the answer at RDE maybe the Saints can focus on other needs in the 1st round of the draft.
Were talking about a guy who had 18 sacks last season and is still one of the most feared pass rushers In this leauge. This season his stats are down but he still has 6 sacks and was playing on a team that was in absolute disarray!
My opinion, it's worth the shot based on the need... The reward is worth the risk! _________________

Yeah, I like the sound of that even better. Still, the others I mentioned have to go IMO. _________________

Hey, just a little side note here...
Will Smith is 2nd on the team in sacks, with 5.
Only Cameron Jordan has more.
So it's not just Will Smith. _________________

| I used to be a big fan of Will SMith, now he makes me kinda sick. I'm totally ready to see him go. Sedrick Ellis has also been a colossal disapoinment. |
