in only 3 games is impressive. This is what happens when you get 7 sacks in two Nationally televised games.

Hope he has a strong finish and wins DPOY!!

If he breaks the sack record, do you think he's a shoe-in for DPOY?

I dunno, but he shouldn't be. J.J. Watt has so far been better, in my honest opinion.

Watt played well but I think Aldon should still get the defensive player of the year if he breaks the single-season sack record.

Agree with both parts of this. Watt is tremendous. But the sack record is just so visible. If he breaks it I would expect him to beat out watt.

When Strahan set the sack record, he wasn't the defensive player of the year, that year. A record might not be enough to beat out other players who are having outstanding years in their own rights. And Aldon's accomplishments will always be diminished by the fact he's playing on such a great overall defense. We can appreciate for what he brings to the team, because he does take this defense to a whole new level (he could already do that playing half the snaps last year). But from the outside, his contribution will always be neglected. Von Miller is having a great year, and I would have troubles naming other players on his defense, besides Champ Bailey and Elvis Dumerville. J.J. Watt is having an amazing year and he's not having nearly the same level of support Aldon has. That's why Aldon isn't likely to win it. Although Suggs won it last year while playing with Ngata, Ray Lewis and Ed Reed... but the competition is much fiercer this year.

My guess is that Watt wins it. And who cares... maybe Aldon will be disappointed and work even harder, and he will win it when he gets 30 sacks next year. Wink

Agreed, Watt has just been better and has made a bigger impact. However, Smith has 11.5 sacks in his last four games which is VERY impressive. He's picking it up at the right time and you never know if the voters will be swayed by his late surge. Being the #1 defense in the league, we are bound to have at least one candidate.

If he breaks the record there is a chance. If he shatters the record and gets like 10 sacks plus he wins it. Especially if he has a 5 sack game or something crazy against the patriots.
