Given that he has only missed one FG attempt all year, and is soon to set the touchback record as well, it would be difficult to keep him OUT of the Pro Bowl, wouldn't ya think? _________________ "No one can disguise mediocrity better than Bill Belichick." |

I would think. Matt Bryant is the only other NFC kicker that I would deem Pro Bowl worthy, at this point. _________________

A quick google search turns up that Billy Cundiff tied Mitch Berger's NFL single-season record of 40 touchbacks last year against the Bengals.
If that is true, then Walsh actually broke the all-time season record for touchbacks. |
Cundiff finished with 44 |
Not in the regular season, the Bengals was game 16 for the Ravens. I wasn't aware they counted play-off games as well.
Still, Walsh should be able to clear 44 in one or two games. |
Well Wikipedia is wrong then! _________________

Is where I got that.
PS: Just checked wikipedia, they say he tied it as well.
Oddly enough, the NFL site puts him at 44, whereas every other site I could find, including Baltimore sites say he tied the record, rather than broke it. _________________

How about 40 for the 2010 season and 44 for the 2011 season?
http://www.nfl.com/player/billycundiff/2504941/profile
I think that a fair amount of credit for Walsh's touch back numbers should go to the coverage units, there have been many returnable kicks that have not been brought out of the end zone. Either way, it is amazing for him to be poised to break the record in his eleventh game. |

Blair Walsh was 5 for 5 on field goals in the St Louis game today, and 3 for 3 on extra points. he had several kickoffs 7-8 yards deep in the endzone.
three of his field goals were 50+ yards.
he set the Viking team record for most 50+ field goals in a season, previously held by Longwell. he tied two retired kickers with the NFL record of eight 50+ field goals in a season.

This year, sure.
Its hard for me to call Walsh the best kicker in the league at this point as he is a rookie. the biggest thing with kickers is maintaining consistency and confidence for years to be a successful kicker over the long term. If Walsh can a couple more seasons like this one, i wont have that doubt. Just look at Mason Crosby, he was once considered one of the best and now he misses about half of his kicks. |

i'm just saying Walsh is probably the best NFL kicker this season.
yes, his future is totally uncertain and unproven. _________________

I don't understand how kickers can be so inconsistent.... They basically practice 2 things... _________________ XBL/PSN: Chainedsniper |
