I am glad that I was not the only one to think that the suspension of Reed was stupid

Irrelevant. Wink

In terms of whether or not a flag should be thrown, sure, but it looks like it's relevant when you're talking about suspensions.

Not really. Crown of the helmet is much more dangerous

They're equally illegal. The rule doesn't care about intent or which is more dangerous.

What does Goodell have to do with this?

Good that it was lifted, not worthy of a suspension. The egregious thing about this is that he was suspended for repetitive infractions but they date back to 2010. If he had been fined for the same thing 3 times in one year, fair enough you have an argument but 3 times over a 3 year period? C'mon man.

Wait, all you have to do to get your suspension lifted is say "I don't think I should have been suspended" and the NFL just says "alright, 50,00 then"
Ok.

Yep, I'm sure that's all that was argued -- "Uh I disagee"... "Oh darn, we were hoping you agreed. Oh well, we overturn it."

Yep, that's why that whole Vilma-bounty thing was worked out so quick and cleanly.

While he shouldn't have been suspended in the first place this is the same thing that happened with Harrison.

Wow. Ted Cottrell lifts Ed Reed's suspension, fines him just $50,000 fine. Guess that's why there is an appeals process.

That's not the guy who suspended him, is it?

Funny how that works out when the guy doing the appeals isn't the same guy who handed out the suspension. Rolling Eyes

Laughing

yet, if they did this for bountygate, cottrell would rule against hte players there too.

Actually, it is. Cottrell was the one who suspended him, and lifted the suspension, on Ed Reed. No joke.

Until we start penalizing offense players for helmet to helmet, I can't take anything about player safety seriously. There are like 25 tackles in each and every game when an offense player lowers his head into the defenders head when he has already started motioning to tackle below the offensive players head. In the majority of this cases it is physically impossible for a defender to re-react to the offensive players new position because of the time it takes for the brain to process motion.

Wasnt harrison's infractions all in one year or did it carry over from previous years?

Harrison hadn't had an infraction in over 16 games.
