He was a very good QB in college and the only thing stopping him from being a 1st Round lock was his character concerns and alleged drug use.

You're ability to say this with the absolute confidence that you do staggers me. Mallett was not a perfect prospect that rumors of cocaine addiction severely damaged his draft stock.
The biggest problem with Mallett (other than the fact that he may or may not have been a degenerate crack addict) was that he was pretty putrid under pressure. His footwork went to hell, his accuracy followed it and his decision making was poor at best. He was a statue in the pocket which pretty much damages a guys standing regardless of his ability to throw a ball through a cinderblock wall.
In the NFL guys don't get a clean pocket to throw. So the options were either try and develop him and clean that up or put him in a situation where he can succeed. Just so happens that the Patriots were the best place for him to land to fulfill both of those requirements to the highest possible degree. Probably the reason he's playing in New England now if you think about it. |

Wow I totally forgot about that guy. He really messed up over the whole tattoo thing
He literally could have road the Cam Newton wave of success to a 1st round draft pick without that whole suspension debacle |

Except Cam was 100x better than him, so no. _________________

Good spot, I think most of us missed that. |
The way some people talk, you might be right. I'll just keep reminding the negative nancy's about last year.
Tebow is in a situation that is about as disfunctional as any in the league in New York, but we all saw last year what he was capable of. He is can do great things - if given the chance. _________________

The "Tebows record" argument is very, very similar to the "Mark Sanchez playoff" argument. No one wins this one. Tyler Wilson better like green and white. Rex is going to LA after this year _________________

Tebow doesn't fit in a backup QB role. You can't stick him in and run the same offense, which is what a backup should be able to do. _________________

can we add Henne? i really thought he would be bagging groceries by next year, but today he just earned 5 more years of backup duties in the NFL.

Joe Webb is underrated, and its probably because he's not even close to being a conventional QB.
But in the right system, Webb could start and be a good QB. He's pretty much the same player as Tebow, but probably better with much less hype.
My number 1 backup though is Shaun Hill _________________

Hindsight is 20/0 guys. Let's not act like all of you posting at how silly it was to have Campbell, Carr or Leftwich on the same tier or below were in here calling for Kaep to have a game like this. He showed what he can do and is obviously one of the best back ups in the NFL but let's not act like BEFORE this game, it was out of the realm of possibility that he was on the same tier as guys i mentioned above. _________________

lol i dont think anyone is suggesting that. it's just humorous to look back and see what we thought.
kind of like the "bold predictions" threads we revisit at the end of the season! |
