Another wild week in the playoff picture
In the AFC, you have the Texans, Ravens, Patriots, Broncos as the 1-4 seeds, i believe in order. 5 and 6 is the Steelers/Colts, both have 6-4 records. These are your 6.
Then you have the Bengals at 5-5. 5 teams are at 4-6- the Dolphins, Bills, Jets, Chargers, and Titans. All these teams have a chance, even if it is slim. Although i think the AFC playoff picture will stay the same as the year goes on.
Then you have 4 AFC teams that are safely out of contention- the Raiders, Browns, Jaguars, and Chiefs.
In the NFC, the top 6 currently are the Falcons, Bears, 49ers, Giants, Packers, and Seahawks. I believe this is the correct order too, although tomorrow's CHI-SF game could shake things up and will help determine seeding.
In the race still are the Vikings and Bucs at 6-4, and the Saints and Cowboys at 5-5 (Cowboys could also win the division).
Redskins are at 4-6 but are in contention for the NFCE. With a Giants loss to the Packers next week and a Redskins win over the Cowboys, things can get very interesting in the NFCE. I don't expect WAS to make the playoffs anyways but if only 1 game separates the division with 5 to play (after this week), it'll go down to the wire.
Cardinals and Lions are also 4-6 but seem too far behind to make a real run. These 2 teams+ the Panthers, Eagles, and Rams seem like safe bets to miss the playoffs.
So in the NFC, 11 teams have a possibility. In the AFC, i'd say 7, because i'm not sure if i trust any of those 4-6 teams. But you never know what'll happen. _________________ -Not taking this off until the 49ers win #6 |

I just went through the whole schedule, gave a few minutes to every point of contention and this is what I got.
1. Texans 13-3
2. Ravens 12-4
3. Broncos 12-4
4. Patriots 10-6
5. Colts 9-7
6. Steelers 9-7
1. Bears 13-3
2. Giants 12-4
3. 49ers 11-4-1
4. Falcons 11-5
5. Seahawks 11-5
6. Packers 9-7
Packers get in on common opponents W-L against Tampa. Bucs getting swept by Saints cooks their goose.
I think NBC fails with Buccaneers-Falcons flex week 17. Falcons out of contention for bye and Buccaneers eliminated. Falcons basically get to choose whether they play Seattle or Green Bay.
It came to Bills, Jets, Colts, Steelers, Chargers, Cowboys, Eagles, Saints, Buccaneers, Packers, Vikings, Lions all 7-8 or 8-7 entering week 17.

I can't see the Falcons going 2-4 to finish the season. Which four games do you think they'll drop? _________________

Looking at their schedule, i see them winning 4/6 of the remaining games. 4 of their next 5, then probably dropping the last week because they're not playing for much.
After tonight i think, i think they'll be tied for the division lead with Chicago. _________________

Yes the Packers control their own destiny for the division and Chicagos schedule is brutal going down the stretch. I posted this in the 49ers game day thread but I think the NFC ends up like this
1.Falcons
2. 49ers
3. Packers
4. Giants
5. Bears
6. Bucs _________________ Ted brought us Clay

Well, tonight's game really shook up the NFC...here's my guess as we enter the final 6 game stretch
1- Falcons
2- 49ers
3- Packers
4- Giants
5- Seahawks
6- Bears
Just missed: Bucs, Saints, Vikings,
1- Texans
2- Patriots
3- Ravens
4- Broncos
5- Colts
6- Steelers
Just missed: Bengals, Dolphins
Not sure what to think about with the Bears...They're 1-3 against teams with winning records, with that 1 win over the Colts on opening day. _________________ -Not taking this off until the 49ers win #6 |

Packers keep getting hit by injuries. I think it's all about to start falling apart for them. |
Packers should have Woodson and Jennings back within the next two weeks FWIW. Also think DTB is underrating the Packers defense which has silently snuck into the top ten in a bunch of defensive categories (points, 3rd down %, DEF passer rating, sacks, N/YA, etc) while the perception is its the same unit as last season. Either way the past three seasons the Packers are 16-5 after November 20th. _________________

This is comical. Green Bay is going to go 2-4 and the Bears are going to finish 6-0. Its pretty easy to see that Chicago's 7-1 start was simply the result of them playing a cup-cake schedule. Now they are running through the gauntlet of teams that Green Bay played early in the season.
Here is what has happened to the Bears when they've played a REAL team. They scored 10 points against Green Bay. 6 points against Houston. 7 points against SF. The Bears offense simply isn't good enough to get the job done against good teams. Green Bay scored 22 points against SF, 23 points against Chicago, and 42 points against Houston.
You can't rely on getting 4 turnovers and a defensive TD every single game. At some point you're luck runs out and the better teams with better QBs aren't going to throw 4 INTs. |
