I think it'd be accurate to say that both Gabbert and Blackmon have had their issues this year.

I think it'd also be accurate to say that both need and deserve more time.

Agreed 100%.

I understand people being frustrated with Blackmon, especially after seeing what Green and Julio did as rookies. But it takes time for some WR's to adjust to the speed of the game.

Remember our lost puppy dog Cecil Shorts last season? How's he doing now?

There was a lot of hype about Cecil last year during camp and throughout the preseason, most people close to the Jaguars expected him to play more. I had him stashed away at the end of my fantasy team as a potentical sleeper and nobody knew who the hell he was. Smile

I really like him, he's still working out a lot of the stupid out of his game, slowly the mistakes will go away. A great small-school mid-rounder by Gene Smith, a potentially solid #2 guy. I got sick of him killing our (Packer fan here) secondary a few weeks ago.

I don't. He hasn't looked good, but I have no doubt he'll develop into a very good receiver.

i guess it's chicken or the egg kinda thing right?

Blackmon couldn't separate from 13 inch arms on a good day Leonard Johnson in college...there is no way he is beating press coverage in the NFL, it is all on Blackmon, Gabbert has nothing to do with it...oh, and when they play him in zone, he isn't fast enough to find a hole.

He's had his faults, but actually, from someone I know that's watched tape it seems like he has gotten some solid seperation at times, unfortunately Gabbert doesn't see him when that happens.

One thing that really annoys me with Gabbert, he seems to know who he's going to before the play starts, if that guy isn't open it's time to dump it off to RJ.

I'm certainly not saying Blackmon is a bust at this point...but he has disappointed. And the fact that a guy like Green/Jones has stepped right in is a bit of an indictment of this management regime. Drafting for position in a weak year. BUT the biggest thing to me, is that comparing Blackmon's development to Shorts III is extremely unfair. Blackmon came out of a high competition program and was a top-5 pick. Shorts III, has the benefit of the doubt coming out of a much lesser school. It's fair to give a later round project WR out of a small school some serious time to adjust...but a guy like Blackmon is a top-5 pick. Those should be guys who can play well in the league right away and have huge upside.

Blackmon hasn't really exhibited either tbh. That's not to say he couldn't develop into a respectable #2 type possession receiver...but if i'm picking top-5, i want more.

All the WRs to hit 1,000 yards last season:

In parenthesis, in what season they accrued their first 1,000 yard season, rookie season after the dash.
1. Calvin Johnson (2) - 756 yards
2. Wes Welker (5) - 434 yards
3. Victor Cruz (2) - 0 yards
4. Larry Fitzgerald (2) - 780 yards
5. Steve Smith (3) - 151 yards
6. Rob Gronkowski (2) - 546 yards
7. Jimmy Graham (2) - 356 yards
8. Roddy White (3) - 446 yards
9. Jordy Nelson (4) - 366 yards
10. Brandon Marshall (2) - 309 yards
11. Mike Wallace (2) - 756 yards
12. Hakeem Nicks (2) - 790 yards
13. Dwayne Bowe (2) - 995 yards
14. Marques Colston (1) - 1,038 yards
15. Antonio Brown (2) - 167 yards
16. Vincent Jackson (4) - 59 yards
17. A.J. Green (1) - 1,057
18. Nate Washington (7) - 624 yards
19. Stevie Johnson (3) - 102 yards

Blackmon is on pace for 444 yards right now. That would put him 11th on this list if we were to rank them based on rookie campaigns. Sure, a lot of these guys weren't top 5 picks, but who cares? They're still the best in the league and almost all of them took time to adjust to the NFL game. You draft players for how they will pan out over the course of a career, not how quickly they can put it together.

Maybe it's me, but I'd rather draft a Roddy White or Wes Welker in the top 5 than a Pierre Garçon.

Never give up on a WR after his first year. Just look at DHB, went from looking like a high school freshman out there in his first year to a near 1,000 yard receiver in his 3rd. Not saying he's great, but he's went from a liability to a consistent playmaker for us. Sometimes it just takes time fellas!! And a little hard work Wink

Solid advice, and i don't think anyone is completely writing off Blackmon at this point. But watching this season, for some of us at least, the bolded is a bit of a questionmark when it comes to Blackmon.

Really do hope he adjusts and turns into a real impact player for us though. But it will take work.
