I have over 300g of music on my ext HD and I've been taking the time to organize it better and start my iTunes library from scratch. All hip hop goes into the hip hop folder, then into whatever area (East coast, South, etc) and then city. I have folders for soundtracks, R&B, etc.
The problem is when I add them back into iTunes, they get placed under new folders under the artist's own designated folder negating my organization by genre. So basically every artists has his/her own folder and I can't put them in other folders.
Anyone know of a way to fix this? I looked under preferences, etc but didn't see a lead. Thanks for any help in advance.

I'm a producer. I used to DJ back in the early 2000's both for a hip hop group and a couple clubs but prefer making beats.

Edit -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized
Uncheck it.

You can set the genre of each album/song in iTunes. Then you can sort by genre.

I have all the info in the iTunes tracks from year to composer and in many cases BPM. I was just having trouble keeping them in the ext HD folders I wanted them to be. Like it would move a J Dilla track from Hip Hop>Midwest>Detroit>J Dilla to an all new J Dilla folder in the area.
