| Quote: | | The list includes former New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi, a consultant for the league; former Green Bay general manager Ron Wolf; Andrew Brandt, ESPN’s NFL business analyst who formerly worked in the Packers’ front office; and ex-Kansas City president/general manager Carl Peterson, who advised Miami owner Steve Ross last winter when the Dolphins hired Joe Philbin as head coach. |
i wouldn't mind accorsi helping us find a new GM. _________________

Probably not going to happen. Other teams have thrown the dough at this guy to only be turned down without interviews. Ravens got this guy on lockdown. _________________

Great move. The guy won't have any bias and will be able to look at our needs objectively. This is a step in the right direction. _________________

Probably not going to happen. Other teams have thrown the dough at this guy to only be turned down without interviews. Ravens got this guy on lockdown. | I told part of the story in the news section. Last year when we fired our GM Jerry Angelo, our new Chairman George McCaskey (grandson of George Halas) told Team President Ted Philips whatever he needed to get Eric DeCosta was his, money was no object. The Bears had an offer prepared to make DeCosta the highest paid GM in professional sports. DeCosta was supposedly on his way to Chicago for his "interview", next thing we know the Ravens release a statement that DeCosta is not accepting any interviews and will remain as "Special Asst GM" to Ozzie Newsome. After that there was all sorts of rumors about guys being vetted (Les Snead, Kevin Siegel, etc...) but nothing happened on the GM front for over a month, not a single interview, nothing. The Bears thought for sure they had DeCosta and didn't get him. Worked out for us b/c we got the right guy in Phil Emery, but yeah DeCosta isn't going anywhere. _________________

Panthers have hired former NY GIants GM Ernie Accorsi to serve as consultant in search for GM.
Joe Person @josephperson
Accorsi has served as a consultant for several teams in the past, and is the head of the NFL's GM committee.
Joe Person @josephperson
Accorsi will start immediately. Timetable will remain the same in terms of hiring a GM at the end of the season. |

he rec'd dimitroff to atlanta.
also rec'd dave gettleman (a giants guy) to the browns... they hired george kokinis who got fired midway through his first season.
it should be noted that ross and accorsi never worked together. _________________

pat yasinkas says he talked to a person interested in the panthers GM position... and that they would heavily consider keeping rivera as coach.
hope accorsi doesn't recommend that guy. _________________

| Quote: | In order to get an idea of who the best candidates are, I asked two current NFL general managers, one former NFL general manager, three personnel executives, and three prominent NFL player agents who they thought should be on the list. And I asked each guy to remove friendships, the best they could, and give me their list of the top-five most qualified names.
Here’s the list broken down by the ones most likely to get jobs for 2013 and executives likely to get strong consideration in the future: |
Pretty good piece on who we may be looking at as well as other teams
My pick
| Quote: | | Tom Gamble/San Francisco 49ers/Director of Player Personnel: In my 14 years of covering the NFL, I don’t recall getting as many strong comments about a potential GM candidate from high-ranking personnel executives and NFL player agents as I’ve received about Gamble in doing research for this piece. In fact, one NFL GM said my list should start with Gamble for the very fact that he’s about as well-rounded of a candidate as you’ll find. |
SF has built great OL and DL most of which through the draft but they fill in spots through FA as well. _________________

| Quote: | | We’re hearing three names being pushed by Ernie Accorsi in Carolina are Ravens director of pro scouting George Kokinis, Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross and Giants senior pro personnel analyst Dave Gettleman. Accorsi worked with all three men previously and knows them well. Kokinis hasn’t been mentioned for many jobs lately, but is a highly qualified candidate. He comes from the respected Ozzie Newsome tree, and he has experience as a general manager. |
hmmm not sure about kokinis due to his bizarre cleveland tenure. could live with gettleman as he has a great resume. worked for polian's bills, elway and shanny's broncos, and the giants since 1999. six super bowl appearances and three rings. _________________
