Nolan Carroll only led the team in tackles today becaus he was picked on so much and giving up so many receptions. Sean Smith was out of position, can't tackle, and should've had about 3 picks today...including the one a the end to give us really good field position. Hopefully this gets addressed this offseason so we aren't getting lit up through the air. Our defense is so one dimensional it's not even funny. _________________

1. Elite QB
2. Elite Defensive Lineman
3. Elite Offensive Lineman
4. BPA
This isn't saying if you have a B prospect DE and a B prospect FS in the 2nd round, the tie breaker goes to the DE. If an elite, A+ prospect staring you in the face you take him even though you may not have a "need"; those positions can change a team more than any other.
Examples would be taking the Andrew Lucks, JJ Watts, Ndamukong Suhs, JPPs, Mike Pounceys, Matt Ryans, Jake Longs over AJ Greens, Patrick Petersons, Eric Berrys, Dez Bryants. All considered elite at their position coming into the NFL, but the QBs and linemen have more of an overall impact on their teams.
My opinion, anyway. |

I said this in the "One more 3 round mock" thread. Getting an elite corner opposite Smith would do wonders for this team. We have gotten our defense to the point where they throw the ball so much because they can't run. We need coverage guys to help thwart opportunities. _________________

You guys can talk all that crap about getting a CB all you want but this team lacks athletes on the defensive line. Miami needs another edge rusher. I like Odrick. I think he is a solid player but he is not a defensive end in a 4-3. Miami should let Starks go, move Odrick inside and draft a end. They also need an elite receiver and I bet that is what they go after if one is not signed during the off season. _________________ "Yesterday Is History, Tomorrow Is A Mystery, And Today Is A Gift. Last week I heard some guys on NFL Network saying we have one of the best secondaries in the league.
That's hyperbole, undoubtedly, but we also don't NEED a CB. Richard Marshall will be back eventually and Smith is still improving. CB's take a long time to mature fully. Smith is close.
Beyond that, we still need more pass rush. With more pass rush all of our corners and safties will look better. _________________ "22 players are involved in every football play. To value precisely the activity of one of them, it is first necessary to account for the actions of the other 21"

I'm with Ova 100%.
We lost in OT to the nyjrks, Ari & to the Colts due to lack of another high quality edge rusher.
I am not nor have I ever been a huge fan of Zone type Deff.
Today was nothing short of giving a quality QB time to allow his WRs to find the "soft spot"
In short .... a shooting gallery that no quality secondary could have defended.
1st rnd - DE/Sack specialist
2nd rnd - TE
2nd rnd B - LOT
3rd - WR
3rd B - LG
4th - WR

The thing with getting a CB is they can take a long time to develop, though I do think getting a "tooly" CB is huge. "Toolsy" is a word I have been using, but by that I mean a nice size, length, speed type of CB that needs fundamental work. Get a physical, physically gifted CB somewhere and let Coyle coach them up. Doesn't have to be a first round guy either. I think Smith is sort of the new age of NFL CB's, teams are going to look for bigger guys. I think Carroll and Marshall can hold it down as the teams 2 and 3 CB while another guy develops.
I agree with Ovaw, get another pass rusher, and have legitimate talent out there. I think Vernon is going to be a good player, but if you can make a "good player" be your third pass rusher that is good. I saw a lot from Shelby today too that I liked. But again keep adding pass rushing. We're at the point that we need to get quality talent to create depth. The solid to okay starters now will become quality backups if they don't step their game up. _________________

Vernon needs to start, he's pretty darn fast and can drop back in coverage too. Misi needs to be replaced for a better pass rusher. I was never a fan of brunett be he's pretty good in the run stop though. I never like Clemons much, Carroll should be released asap, Smith needs to learn to tackle. =/ |

Sean Smith should have been shown the door the same time Vonte was.
I said it before the season and it is still true today, Miami has a weak non physical secondary and they need a true #1 TD maker at reciever. These 2 points I knew going into the season. Other areas need tweaking and some upgrade but secondary and #1 TD play making reciever are top priorities to me.
This team is good and I am excited about the future so while games like today stink it was better then getting beat 51 to 10. |

1. Where would Vernon start? Isn't good enough to start...YET.
2. Misi is one of the keys to the run defense being so great. Pass rush isn't that important from his spot, and he actually has done well getting after the passer when asked.
3. Burnett is one of the best OLB in the NFL amongst 4-3 LB this season.
4. Carroll has been MUCH improved. I like what I see from him this season.
5. Yes. _________________

On a side note it is time to get what Miami can out of Jake Long, he is declining in performance as the seasons pass now. |

Pass rush, pass rush, pass rush.
Lemonier in round one sounds about right. We need speed on the ends so Wake cannot be double-teamed with impunity forever.
I'm not suggesting the Olivier Vernon is useless, but even if he pans out we still need more than just him. _________________ Earn more sessions by sleeving. |

You show up after losses like legal aids show up at car accidents.
That said, I agree 100% ... I did 'just for fun' mock in which I let starks go and moved odrick inside. I also took a pass rusher with the 1st pick. It's amazing how a consistent pass rush can make a secondary look better than they are.
I'm not sure about elite WR. It depends on what you mean by "elite" ... We need an OLine that allows precise, sure handed route runners time to get open. _________________
