Well deserved, I love seeing our draft picks make their place on our team. I hope he turns into the player he is looking like. _________________

Yea I think with Wake and now Vernon, pass rusher has gone from big need to "oh, this guy could be JJ Watt v2, lets take him" _________________ "well, they got X player I wanted but they clearly overpaid" is the battle cry of bitter and ignorant football fans

Vernon is less straight pass rusher and more "5 tool player" to put it into baseball terms...He drops, he rushes, he plays the run, he's a cog on special teams...not a lot he CAN'T do. I think a situational pass rusher would serve us extremely well, but between him, JO, Kraken and Starks...that's a beastly pass rush. Odrick has been overwhelmed this year playing against tackles. Put him on the interior and watch how suddenly he becomes a dominant fixture again. _________________ -Proud 2011 Inductee to FF's Miami Dolphins RoH |

Might mean that Starks walks then. Wake/Soliai/Odrick/Vernon is pretty elite. _________________ "well, they got X player I wanted but they clearly overpaid" is the battle cry of bitter and ignorant football fans

I kind of agree. He's still relatively under-developed as a pass rusher. He's gotten home once or twice late in games which is good see from a young guy but he's not really a starting-caliber playing right now in terms of his ability to rush the passer consistently. I do believe we'll need more from the position of RDE but I still doubt we address it with a 1st round pick when other areas of the team seem more in need.
Plus, there are too many busts in the draft regarding guys who are pass-rush specialists which is what we need. I don't want to risk drafting the next Gholston, Groves or Merling when we could add a top-level offensive threat who's risk is in my opinion lower. Those guys develop and contribute through time where as rush-DEs seem to be either hits or misses. |

While that is true, Soliai is the cog that makes this defense go. He commands the double teams up front that allow Starks and the LB to roam free. You can't not double team this guy:

| Vernon seems like one of those player that 3 years from now people will wonder how they passed on him. He's not quite there yet, but he will learn from Wake and seems to have the motor to do well. He has a great skill set to start with. |
