My wife works with Orlando Thomas' cousin down here in Atlanta. He says Orlando (his family calls him poopsie) is doing very well. Said he misses wearing the Purple, enjoys spending time with his family, and sends all his love to Viking Nation. _________________

The Lions’ loss to the Bears on Monday night became even more painful with the news afterward that receiver Nate Burleson suffered a broken leg and is done for the season. Lions coach Jim Schwartz announced at his postgame press conference that Burleson will not play again this year.

The Patriots gave Visanthe Shiancoe a $1.2 million deal, including a $400,000 bonus, and would like to get some degree of return on that investment. Shiancoe went on IR-designated for return in Week One, returned to the practice field this week. He’s not eligible to take the field until after the Patriots’ bye week, but practiced in shells yesterday, his first work in any degree of pads since a hamstring injury in July.

Former Pro Bowl running back Michael Bennett, who played 10 seasons in the NFL, claims that “financial desperation” led him to commit fraud. That fraud will put him in prison for 15 months.
Bennett was sentenced to a year and three months in federal prison on Friday after he pleaded guilty to wire fraud. Bennett’s crime involved filing false tax returns in other people’s names and then stealing their identities to take their tax refunds.

| Quote: | As the Colts find themselves with more wins through seven games of Andrew Luck’s rookie season than they had through all 16 games of Peyton Manning’s rookie season, the team is constantly looking for ways to improve.
On Monday, the effort resulted in the termination of the employment of veteran running back Mewelde Moore. |

Bryant McKinnie's the odd man out in the Baltimore tackle rotation (Michael Oher's taken his old left tackle job, with Iowa State rookie Kelechi Osemele now the right tackle. McKinnie played but 23 offensive snaps in the last three Ravens game. But he'd be a good temporary Band-Aid for the reeling Cardinals, who I hear have some interest in him. They should. Their two starting tackles are the lowest-rated tackles in the NFL, according to ProFootballFocus.com, which has Bobbie Massie and D'Anthony Batiste blamed for the incredible total of 25 sacks and 74 quarterback hits or hurries -- in eight games!

Do you guys remember when Daniel Graham was a free agent and a lot of us (myself included) wanted him on the Vikings. Whoa. Glad we weren't running the team for that one. _________________

The Panthers’ 2-7 start has claimed another victim, as special teams coordinator Brian Murphy has joined general manager Marty Hurney in the unemployment line. The Panthers special teams have been bad for years, and were last in the league in 2011 in the comprehensive special teams rankings of Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News.

was Murphy our ST coach before Priefer? _________________

It is a surprise, but I'm certain someone else will give him a shot. _________________
