Taking my first stab at a 2013 mock. I have not seen the many of these guys, so I am mostly going off projections and need. I think we will be picking in a similar spot we were last year (25'ish).
TRADES
Denver trades the #25 pick to move up 5 or so spots
Denver gives their 4th round pick
last year New England traded up 6 spots in the first round and gave a 4th rounder (I'm hoping we can do the same)
1st) Manti T'eo 6'2" 255lbs. MLB, Notre Dame
T'eo is a very easy pick here. Not only is he in the mold of a great MLB but he has been working on his biggest weakness which is pass defense. T'eo has stepped his game up and this "weakness" has become a strength. T'eo is an every down MLB that will be the heart and leader that this defense needs. He is an extremely high character player and leads by both example and talk. He is exactly what our defense needs to take their game to the next level.
2nd) Tayvon Austin 5'9" 180lbs. WR, West Virginia
Tayvon is an extremely talented athlete that already plays the slot at WVU. He will be able to come in and immediately make an impact on Special Teams as a very accomplished returner. He will eventually take over for the aging Stokley in the slot and will give PFM a great weapon.
3rd) Sharrif Floyd 6'3" 305lbs. DT, Florida
A big boddied DT who was asked to play a lot of DE in the past because of lack of depth. Floyd is obviously very athletic and knows how to penetrate and get to the QB.
5th) John Boyett 5'10" 205lbs, FS, Oregon
Boyett is an athletic FS who has a good head on his shoulders. He reminds me of a young Jim Leonhard. Boyett was a pre-season All-American who will fall due to missing this year with an injury. Boyett should give us a great special teams ace who can replace the aging Leonhard and push our current group of safeties.
6th) Lane Taylor 6'2" 328lbs. OL, OK State
Taylor has been a mainstay on a very good Oklahoma State offensive line that has produced several NFL players as of late. Taylor is massive and should prove sufficient depth on the interior of our offensive line.
7th) Quanterus "Q" Smith 6'5" 250lbs. DE, Western Kentucky
Even against stiff competition (ie Alabama), Smith is constantly in opposing offenses backfields. He has a great burst off the ball and is a pass rush specialist. I wouldn't be surprised to see him shoot up some draft boards after the combine. _________________

Your 1st two picks are literally the same as the mock draft I am working on. So I obviously love them.
I think it will take a 3rd to move up and get Te'o. The NE trade up last year was an anomaly, it nearly always takes a 3rd to move up 5 spots.
Great mock. My only issue is you did not target a power RB. I would target a premier S in FA, skip drafting a S in the 5th and instead go RB. |

I know Ive said this a million times and it might sound like a broken record but I dont think Teo will last past 10. Hes arguably one of the top-10 players in college football this year and his value in the NFL wont drop being hes got a ton room to grow at the position. _________________

Love the picks but I think Teo will be as Jersey said top 10 maybe top 15. Tayvon Austin might be a high pick too just think about Kendall Wright he soared through the draft because of RG3 and Geno Smith is making an Impact. Just my opinion. _________________

I agree with your valuation of his draft position. That said, I'd like to see Denver do whatever it takes to draft him. From what I've read, seen and heard, he's the best MLB prospect since Ray Lewis.
Here's a projection. Whoever ends up with him will have a top 10 defense throughout his career. Can you imagine him in the middle of our "D". |

was Ray Lewis even that great of a prospect coming out? I was still young in 1996 so i dont know. But looking at the draft, Lewis wasnt even the 1st LB drafted |

He was really good in college (1st team all-american two or three years?) and the top rated MLB coming out. |

Te'o is NOT the best prospect since Ray Lewis. He's now getting overrated. Patrick Willis was five times the LB coming out that Te'o was. I think Te'o will be available, but we shouldn't trade the farm. We're not one piece away.
If he fell, I'd consider grabbing him, although I personally am a fan of Alec Ogletree where we'll be picking (if he declares)....so we'll see.
Love Tavon Austin though. _________________

I think the Broncos do what it takes to move up into the top 10 to take T'eo. The Falcons did it for Julio Jones. And, I think T'eo is going to be way better and at a better position.
Can we imagine DJ Williams, T'eo, and Miller as the starting Broncos LBs? The biggest weakness becomes a strength very quickly.
I think the Broncos also need to sign or draft a legit starting RB, in regards to your draft picks. McGahee isn't long for the league much longer, as much as I love him, and Hillman cannot be expected to carry a lot of carries.
Those are my two cents. _________________ Ninja stealth muggers in the Bellagio has left me in a state of congitive disonance... |

While I dont agree hes the best since Ray, as broncos67 pointed out Patrick Willis was better, that doesnt take away from the player Manti is.
Manti is a great player and has some skills that Willis and Lewis dont have. Hes much better in coverage than either of them were when they came out, which I also believe Teo has some room to grow in. Hes also much more of a leader than either were. Lewis was a bit of a headcase when he came out and grew into the leader he is from killing those 2 people. Willis was a soft-spoken "let your play speak for itself" type of player and still is. I love Manti's leadership.
I personally think hes going top-10. Do I think we should trade up to draft him? Yes. But how far? I would not be interested in giving up more than 2 picks (2014 1st and 2013 2nd) to move up. However much value that gets us with the new value chart then stop there. Teo is a great player but we have too many holes to fill to trade away 2-3 future 1sts and multiple 2nds like ATL did.
I wonder if we could throw in a player like DJ with 2 picks to move up and get him? That would be the best of both worlds in my eyes. _________________

There's zero chance we trade away first round picks next year. Ain't gonna happen. Elway values the high picks far too much. I like Te'o, I don't think he'll go Top 10 though. I think people will be surprised where he ends up. _________________

whoa is that a lot to give up for a slightly above avg MLB... If we give up all that we'd have traded into the top ten (ATL got up to 6 giving almost the same amount). We better be getting either Jarvis Jones (BEAST of a combo with Miller) or one of the DT's Hankins/Star. I'd prefer Jones, not that it matters though.
As for the draft, Teo at the spot you have us taking him would be ideal but wont happen. I absolutely love pick #2... he's exactly the guy I'm hoping we get, but just like others have said, idk if he'd last to the end of the second round. Most likely would have to trade up for him. The rest of the draft is alright. None of us know too many prospects after the first two rounds anyways lol. I will say that I think we need to address O-line earlier than you may think. Possibly even the third round. Our depth is atrocious. |

You bring up a good point. Aside from Von Miller (#2 pick), who apart of this new regimes draft selections have made an impact immediately? Weve had some good picks but not one player has had a large impact. Can Manti? Absolutely.
SHOULD we trade up for Manti? Yes. SHOULD we trade the farm? No.

I agree with you that I dont THINK they will. They did trade up to get Ronnie Hillman this year so its not like theyve never traded up. _________________
