Very classy move by the Lions. I'm referring to the fact that Jahvid Best was never expected to be medically cleared from his concussions, but the Lions wanted him to accrue one more NFL season before cutting him, in order to grant him access to the NFL Pension plan. Great move and I hope Best has a very healthy life.

Bummer Sad Even though I'm a UO/Packer fan I always rooted for this guy. IIRC he started blowing up as a freshman but the head hits caught up to him. I hope he gets out before he does more damage to his body. They drafted another RB high the year after him anyway

I would just cut him. What is the point of keeping him? We took a flyer on him anyway and he has an Ivy League education. Just let the guy live his life

As I'm not a doctor, could someone provide a layman's terms explanation of how a concussion such as this can keep an individual out for as long as Best has been out? Is it basically like if he sustains another concussion, his brain might just turn to mush?

Sidney Crosby had a concussion, then one a few days later. He is one of the best hockey players in the NHL. He couldn't play for over a year because anytime he exerted himself he would get crippling migraines.

Shame, but not a suprise.

Doubt he ever gets cleared in truth, time to move on.

Damn, I hope we have't seen to the end of Best in the NFL but it's looking like that very well may be the case. I loved watching him at Cal. He never had much success against Oregon or USC, but tore up the rest of the Pac 10. I still remember his final three games in 2008. Domination.

Stanford: 19 carries, 201 yards, 3 total TD's
Washington: 19 carries, 311 yards, 4 TD's
Miami FL (bowl game): 20 carries, 186 yards, 2 TD's

Just because I was curious as to how he did against Oregon and USC, I added up all the games.

6 games (1-5 record): 65 carries, 249 yards, 3.8 yards per carry, 0 TD

Anywho, best of luck to him.

He's still so young with no tread on the tires.

Couldn't he take 2-3 years out of the NFL and then come back or is this definitely one of those 'You are done forever' deals?

I mean, he's only, what 23/24, he could come back at 27 relatively healthy and contribute in a big way with the extended time off to heal properly....

Sucks for him. I wish him well in whatever he decides to do.

Was he really explosive though? The only game i saw he did good in was the 160 yd game he had against the bears

We're talking about brain damage here. While brains have shown a remarkable ability to recover, at some point I just do not know why you would risk it. If he has the intelligence, I would recommend heading back to college and trying to make a career as a position coach IF he is committed to sticking to football.
