Alex Karras, who played defensive line for the Lions and later found even greater fame as an actor, is reportedly suffering from kidney failure and near death.
After reports surfaced on Monday night that the 77-year-old Karras was given only days to live, Lions president Tom Lewand said in a statement expressing concern from the team.

| One of the toughest and best at his position for a long time...one of the lion all- time greats. Hard to imagine anything taking him down including old age. |

Its to bad for those that didnt see him play. He was a great player and anchored the ORIGINAL fearsome foursome.
His acting debut was in the film, "Paper Lion," which was an adaptation of George Plimpton's book. He was awesome.
Great player, great personality. It's unfortunate he hasn't been elected to the hall of fame. He certainly deserves it. _________________

In my Dad's lifetime he saw the passing of his favorite Lions (Doak Walker and Bobby Layne) . Now I guess it is my turn to start seeing some of my favorites passing . He was the model of a D-lineman, nothing soft about Karras on the field . He was truely worthy of the Lion on his helmet . My prayers are with him and his family . _________________ "Thanks TK".
