Erm... doesn't the link say that they SIGNED Barrett Ruud? The thread title makes it sound like they are releasing him...
Anyway, Ruud is trash. The Texans are in trouble if they expect this signing to help their situation. _________________ With much cheese,

The release is not surprising.
As for Ruud, better you guys than us... |

Edited accordingly.
And now, the Tiny Trindon experiment is over. Guy looked SO good in the preseason, but literally nothing carried over. He simply didn't find the lanes or the gear to even turn out an average return, the Texans were starting behind the 20 after his returns.
Best of luck, Trindon. _________________

I honestly think the Ruud signing is just a depth signing; I would of figured it would of been ILB Shawn Losineau, who had a nice camp with us, but I surmise that Ruud showed off enough to land on the team.
From all the talk, Bradie James is moving to Cushing's role and Tim Dobbins is going to James' vacated role - which is about as uninspiring as signing Ruud to begin with. However, this coaching staff has earned my trust...
...for now. _________________

What about the moving Barwin inside and starting Whitney Mercilus thing? _________________

So they cut a terrible player, for an even worse player?
Holliday was bad, but he's probably a better LB than Ruud... _________________ Come Follow The Great NSFL!

Makes sense.
Obviously neither is elite like Cushing, but Bradie James & Tim Dobbins are pretty solid players. The more they see the field and the less that Barrett Ruud does, the better. _________________ With much cheese,

I think that's just fans trying to make something out of nothing. I'd LIKE it (and could see something along those lines when the Texans go to their 4-2-5 nickel package, where Reed and Barwin play hand up LB positions and the DL is made of Smith/Cody/Watt/Mercilius) but in regards to our normal set, I doubt it would happen.
Bradie James might not have the skillset for on-field impact, but he knows the playbook inside and out and can help others in getting into position to make a play. Selfless guy, a "team leader" type player, someone the team could look up to in regards to the Xs and Os of the system.
We'll see how 4-2-5 looks, but our base set will be Smith/Cody/Watt with Barwin/Dobbins/James/Reed. Whitney might spell Barwin/Reed at times, but that should be how things play out in lieu of Cush's injury. _________________

Agreed.
Barwin's not built for playing ILB. Reed is obviously best at OLB, but he's the same size as Cushing.
In fact when Bradie James was playing more terribly in the early season, I suggested this move. _________________

Ruud is going to get killed in a 3-4 defense. That guy is soft. |

Well, at the moment, he's not starting, and if I had to guess he's going to be taking over Dobbins' duties as back-up ILB and special teams player.
What I don't understand is why we didn't re-sign Kevin Bentley, who was here last year or Shawn Louiseau.
At least they aren't proven liabilities. _________________

Mercilus isn't ready to play OLB full time yet. Still has to work on his run defense first and foremost. _________________
