I counted thrice. On two of them Chung had different responsibilities. The other one he did get over a bit late, but Moore offered no resistance to start the play. Dennard looked SO much better. |
According to NESN, Moore had one of the worst games for a Patriot DB in recent memory
Targeted 6 times
6 catches allowed
138 yards

He can't cover, at all. He has plus ball skills, and that's about it. No way he should be playing ahead of Dowling and Dennard unless they're not healthy. |

At the completely opposite end of the spectrum, Dennard was targeted four times, and allowed zero completions, including 2 passes defensed.
Hoping for a McCourty/Dennard/Arrington top 3 moving forward, with Dowling as the big nickel. _________________

He did allow Tamme to get wide open on a crossing route in the first half [i believe it was his 2nd snap of the game] but Manning overthrew Tamme.
Dennard then made a good break-up on the ball on 3rd down to force a punt a play later. _________________

Spikes/Guyton 2.0. The one thing he has going for him is the one thing McCourty's missing. _________________

The two picks he made against the Bills were very impressive. If that McCourty could show up every week, he'd probably be a top-3 corner. _________________

FYI, Dennard was the 5th ranked CB according to nfl.com's combine grades, for whatever that's worth. The top 4 were Kirpatrick, Jenkins, Claiborne and Jayron Hosley. Dennard graded ahead of both Gilmore and Trumaine Johnson.
If he plays up to that billing, he'll be the steal of the draft. _________________

If McCourty had Moore's awareness and ability to track the ball, he'd be a top 10 corner for sure.
On the other hand, the skills Moore possesses aren't very useful when opposing players make him look like he's stuck in quicksand. _________________

Still think he was passing him off to Chung and Chung should have been in coverage there. |

Not the way i saw it but possibly.
Chung had a pretty bad game either way, on that 2nd long pass attempt to Decker which Dennard made a great play on to deflect the pass, Chung completely whiffed on making a play on the ball despite been in position... instead of both DBs making a play it ended been one on one with Dennard and Decker because of how poorly Chung played it. _________________

I also saw it this way. Given Chungs previous history, it isn't far fetched. _________________

For what it's worth, FO has McCourty as graded the 5th best Cb in the NFL. _________________

And PFF has him as the second best cover corner.
