Definitely need to mix it up....do some twists and stunts, the wide 9 is easy to prepare for...add the fact its expected. Granted Shotsnburgers has been doing the scramble drill for yrs now but still we need to finish...
I'd put more blame on the DTs than the DEs...They aren't getting pressure in the QBs face as much as they should be...QBs avoiding the outside DEs should be stepping right up into Jenkins/Landri/Thornton/Cox.
Add the fact that our CBs are playing off so much more than I expected its easy to run 3 step/quick 5 step routes. Thats taken what the D is given you. |

We need to get our CBs to be doing more press. That is what they're more suited for. Ugh. WHY CAN'T #JUANDAMENTALS SEE THIS!? _________________

Yeah, Graham probably leads our team in pressures. |
lol pressures, might be the most worthless stat in all of football. |
pressures leads to INTs or throw aways. if you have constant pressure on a qb they cant go through there reads and stops big plays. |
Well thank god that we have all those interceptions to show for it! We have six, SIX, on the year, four of which came against an average rookie in his first NFL start. |

Also add what offenses are doing to the DEs its definitely not as easy as last yr which is expected.
Chipping with backs and TEs
TEs taking an outside release to get into their route, causing the DEs to hesitate a second longer.
Not trying to make excuses but all these are signs that opposing coaching staffs have gameplanned in the offseason on how to attack a wide 9 scheme. |

The wide 9 have been successful at getting pressure on the QB the last 10 years with Washburn, the fact that someone have just invented a way to neutralize it is a joke. Chipping with TE's and RB's aren't exactly invented this year.
DT need to get a better push and not just go wide like the End's and stay in the middle when the QB's step up. _________________

The wide 9 is simple to block, let them go down field and then the QB steps into the pocket - need some stunts or twists. _________________

They get pushed down field as well, that's why we need twists or stunts. _________________

I agree somewhat, but it have been successful the past 10 years, what suddenly makes team defend it better?
And if we didn't any pressure, why does QB's so far in this season in general play worse against us? _________________

not saying it works all the time but getting hurries is really important in football. if the qb gets to just it in the pocket, they are going to tear you up.
just because its not the flashy things that people like to say doesnt mean they are worthless. _________________

I think we're not using our corners effectively on the outside. The entire point of the wide nine defense is that it forces quick throws and the the point of the press coverage is that it disrupts the timing of a receiver's route and causes the QB to hold onto the ball or throw a bad pass. But we're playing lots of outside technique where we give up the inside to a receiver because we're trying to trick the QB into throwing at a safety or a linebacker. Screw that, play inside technique, don't give up the inside so easily and force QBs to make throws down the sideline. |

Just finished watching the game with the coaches film and the thing that really jumped out to me is how successful our DL has actually been. Steelers were in max protect nearly every time they dropped back to pass, so sure it means our DL may not get a sack and even sometimes no pressure but it gives our pass defense an advantage in the numbers game. This is what is making us what I believe is a top 5 defense in the NFL, and the only thing from last week I'd really want to improve on is the run defense. Also think we need to send 5 pass rushers more often, but overall the defense is the last of our problems. |

What is everyones thought on Alex Henery? I for in think that he was a horrible 4th round pick and is just an average kicker, but he's statistically pretty impressive. To be a good a desirable kicker in this league I think you should be able to hit a 40-49 yard in a high pressure situation at least 9/10 times, and hit a 50-55 yard field goal at least 6/10 times. There are probably ~15 kickers in the league who fit this criteria, and for the teams who don't have one of those kickers I think they should be actively shopping for a new one. I fear that us drafting Henery so high will basically keep up us from releasing him, also he'll never be bad enough to warrant cutting and we'll be stuck in a kicker limbo for eternity! |
