In the 'O-line metrics' thread we talked about whether RT Andre Smith would be worth franchising.

I know its early, but if not 'Dre, then who ya got ?

Nate Clements/ Robert Geathers (Villain ?)/ Bruce Gradkowski/ Thomas Howard/ Michael Johnson/ Adam Jones/ Manny Lawson/ Rey Maualuga/ Terrence Newman/ Mike Nugent/ Dennis Roland/ Bernard Scott/ Pat Sims/ Dan Skuta/ Brandon Tate....

There are other guys we will probably need to 'up', like Andrew Hawkins, Geno, Dunlap maybe, as well as Dalton & Green.

FO folks are going to have a busy off-season.......

Is there an Anti-franchise tag we can slap on Geathers?

No one on that list really jumps out at me. If MJ93 continues to play well we may have to use it on him. But at this time that is heavily over paying him

Hopefully we can get all our key guys re-signed and not HAVE to use the tag. That's one of the reasons we are so far below the cap.

I'm gonna say Andre gets it if they don't resign him to a long term deal

Andre isn't really worth the tag number. If they used it on him, it would be an admission that they screwed up in not exercising his option last offseason. So they won't do that, instead they'll let him become a free agent and try to re-sign him, ala Joseph. Keeping Geathers was a mistake that is costing over 5 mil this year. We'll wish we had that money next offseason.

Its OK to say Andre Smith is not worth top 5 money, but a FA vet replacement will probably cost the same or more.

We're thinking defence with our top draft picks, so the only other options is to start Collins @RT.

So which option do you prefer ?

A) Let Smith walk, and look for a vet FA RT.
B) Draft a RT in R! or R2.
C) Start Anthony Collins.

Regarding Robert Geathers, he is a FA after this season, so we don't have a cap number hit at all for him after February '13........

It will be a race to get either ASmith or MJ93 done before the tags are given. If one gets done, the other might get the tag.

I would rather lock up Smith. Both should be resigned though

If I had to replace one of them with a high draft pick I would go with a new DE. I LOVE me some MJ93 but i'm not IN LOVE with him. I like our line now too, zeitler and fat boy next to each other is pretty awesome.
