Unless Bradford bites the big one and the Rams decide they want to trade both their 1sts and their 2nd to move up for a new QB Im not sure I want the Browns to trade down this year.
Draft an elite player and walk away smiling. |
I'm thinking we get at least two firsts and a second for a pick that early from any team needing a QB. (The Chiefs are the first that come's to mind). Then, the new FO, which seems inevitable, will have more to play with in the top 100 than just an early one and three. _________________

I would like to spot light one DE I have found very intriging because of how similar he is to a past draftee of Tom Heckart. First here are the numbers of Trent Cole a small DE Tom Heckart drafted to Philadelphia who has since become one of the best in the league.
Trent Cole
6'2 1/4
236
4.70
38"
10'4"
4.22
6.98
So he was a relatively short DE and also very light for a DE and doesn't have super explosive numbers. The 4.7 and 38" vert are nice numbers but are not numbers the elite guys put up at the combine yet he has found a way to be very successful in the league.
Now for a prospect this year who plays similar with a similar build against similar compitition is Trevardo Williams of Connecticut.
Trevardo Williams
6'2
233
Rumored 4.3 speed
He has the same build with a rumored 4.3 forty time. I think he plays the in the Big East and Trent Cole was a CUSA member back then but a lot of the teams on the full schedule are the same level of compitition. When I watched Williams I was expecting a smallish guy with and explosion off the ball and speed to just run by the OT but the more I watched I saw him using his lack of height to his benifitt. He plays low with power and with explode into the OT forcing him back into running lanes. I was pleased to see him play the run just as well as rush the passer.
I'm not ready to make him a future pro bowler but so far from what I have seen he would be a great pick up in the middle of the draft just like Trent Cole was a great find for Philadelphia in the 5th round. _________________

Also tonight is a very good chance to get a look at Western Kentucky DE Quanterus Smith.
So far he has had 2 very explosive game one of which has come against the #1 team in the country. _________________

Yeah I've been hoping to catch him have to chase a play down from the backside to see if he really has great closing speed. He hasn't had to in the 2 game I have watched.
It would be cool to see obviously, but I have no real concern if he doesn't run a blazing fast 40 time. I want a DE to be able to get to the quarterback in less than 3 seconds thats all I care about. _________________

I decided to check him out. Here's one youtube clip against NC state.
Check it out at 3:10 and at 4:00.

How does everyone feel about Corey Lemonier?
The more I watch of all these other prospects, and what I've seen of him. I think he's a great fit for the Browns. _________________ 2013 First Ballot Recipient of the Joe Blackburn Award |

Trevardo Williams thoughts. Dude punches like a boxer. Very quick off the snap but does not have quick twitch muscles. His low pad level is his best trait. _________________

Don't you need quick twitch to get off the ball fast? Jk jk _________________ Trent Richardson please!!! |

I think he needs some technique work, but I think there are flashes of greatness in him. Given his undersized stature at the moment, I think he plays with good leverage in the run game as well. _________________ 2013 First Ballot Recipient of the Joe Blackburn Award |

I've seen 2 or 3 times already when LSU gets pressure or in the backfield the camera automaticaly cuts to Barkevious Mingo. I'M TIRED OF IT!!! He hasn't done jack crap all year. He hasn't done jack crap all game. He is the 3rd best DE on his own team. He is the most overrated player preseason since Javon Snead. _________________

Updated DE Big Board.
I took a few more off my board such as Armonty Bryant who is dominanting D2 right now. Has over 15 TFL 10 Sacks 2 FF and 2 Block kicks, however, he was just arrested for selling marijuana during practice. I don't know about NFL GMs but that would be an ultimate deal breaker for me. Selling is one thing but practice is the teams time not your time.
