Rodak thought it actually DID look good for Mankins, because they signed Tennant over Warren and Austin, both of whom practiced with the team this week.

Not buying that in the slightest. The Pats are already carrying one game-day inactive on the interior OL. No need to add another unless Mankins' availability is in question.
Warren was awful in camp and I doubt Austin is much better (if at all) than Tennant.
This move IMO tells me that the Pats might prefer the option of using Wendell as the #3 G behind Thomas and Connolly in a Mankins-less scenario and would need someone to play C. Between McDonald's shoulder issue and the possible need to replace Thomas at G for awful play, adding Tennant over a PS guard makes sense. |
