|
|
|
I wandered over into the Browns forum, and I saw a thread discussing the players that they had wanted over who they had picked. I figured we could do that here as well.
2000 - R. Jay Soward
2001 - Marcus Stroud
2002 - John Henderson
2003 - Byron Leftwich
2004 - Reggie Williams
2005 - Matt Jones
2006 - Marcedes Lewis
2007 - Reggie Nelson
2008 - Derrick Harvey
2009 - Eugene Monroe
2010 - Tyson Alualu
2011 - Blaine Gabbert
2012 - Justin Blackmon
There's the list of draft picks since 2000, feel free to do whatever ones you paid attention to the draft for.
I didn't start paying attention to the draft until 2006
2006 - Maurice Jones Drew
Thank goodness he lasted until our 2nd round pick, I figured he was going off at #30 to the Colts.
2007 - Darrelle Revis or Jarvis Moss
The talk the whole offseason was these two and Nelson. The team wanted Revis and had a deal in place with the Steelers to move up to 15, but the Jets moved up to 14 and grabbed him. The Jaguars then traded back with the Broncos (who would take Moss) and drafted Nelson.
2008 - Derrick Harvey
This guy was supposed to be everything we needed to make the next step.
2009 -
I went through a lot of things that year, and didn't have a lot of time for football. As such, I didn't really know anything about any of the players outside of the projected top 5. Getting Monroe, who was in that list, was really exciting though.
2010 -
Another year that I didn't really follow the draft much. The DEs in that class really tickled my fancy though.
2011 - Jake Locker
This one still hurts. I didn't like anything about Gabbert coming out, and was in love with Locker's upside. Boy, I hope I was wrong
2012 - Justin Blackmon or a trade back for Chandler Jones and Alshon Jeffery
This one doesn't really need any explanation, as the discussion is all really fresh. _________________

I wanted DeAngelo Williams so bad in 2006. Loved him coming out of Memphis.
In 2007, I remember Vic talked about us having a deal in place with the Steelers so we could trade up to 15 from 17 to nab Revis. Jets take him at 14, and we trade back and get stuck with Reggie.
Edit: Oops, didn't even see your explanation for 2007. lol _________________

2000-2005 I will just name players I liked, ignoring team need.
2000 - Keith Bulluck//Chad Clifton
2001 - Really Stroud...also had a weird fixation on Deuce McAllister
2002 - Again, liked Henderson, also liked Phillip Buchanon
2003 - Loved, loved, loved Terrell Suggs...remember everyone talking about how he was going to change the game.
2004 - Bob Sanders...best Safety I have seen in person.
2005 - Won't lie...Matty Jones was who I wanted...looking back, still want Matty Jones.
2006 - Watched Mangold all the time, we didn't need him...but man, I wanted him.
2007 - You covered this.
2008 - Didn't like Harvey at Florida..but I really like Mike Jenkins...yeesh on both.
2009 - Liked both picks...just wish Britton was healthy
2010 - This was the year I was sure we were getting our DE..JPP was there, I broke a TV and a remote when we picked Alualu.
2011 - Didn't want Gabbert...Locker, Watt, Prince, and you all talked me into Kerrigan.
2012 - Patrick Peterson, thought he was a perfect fit for our defense. _________________

Close enough.
Morris Claiborne, Patrick Peterson, same person as far as I'm concerned. _________________

Didn't really focus on the draft until 2008.
2008
Round 1. Put a hole in my wall when we took Harvey. I wanted Mayo or Cromartie.
Round 2. Hated this pick but, I wanted Limas Sweed so, not much better
2009
Liked both picks.
2010
Round 1. Ugh, wanted Earl Thomas.
Round 3. Wanted Colt McCoy.
2011
Round 1. Jake Locker, Watt or Cameron Jordan
Round 2. Was ok with Rackley. The other two were Mason Foster and Curtis Marsh
2012
Round 1. Meh. Wanted Claiborne or Chandler Jones (even at 7)
Round 2. Ok. Wanted Vinny Curry, Stephen Hill, or Lavonte David _________________

Joe Haden, Derrick Morgan, Brandon Graham
Jake Locker, Ryan Kerrigan, Prince Amukamara
Morris Claiborne, Morris Claiborne, Morris Claiborne
I did this back until 2004, but apparently lost my connection, im not re-typing it _________________

Better than a lot of guys on the OP. Hence sad, they all can't be winners. |

I liked the Gabbert pick, but I loved loved loved Kerrigan and JJ Watt. Was hoping we would have gotten either.
Think the same year, we were in talks for trading with Philly in the 3rd or 4th round...can't remember...but we were going to trade up for Sean Lee...they decided to trade in division with the Cowboys. Wish that trade would have gone through.
Other than that...I thought when the Titans took Griffin over Nelson that was a huge plus for us. Although I still think Nelson is the better of the two, would've liked Revis over both.
It was hard to really dislike the Harvey pick at the time, because nobody thought we would trade up that high and we did need more of a pass0rush. Nobody thought he was even part of the thought process...and then it happened. I remember everyone being higher on our 2nd round pick from Auburn that year...that was by far the worst draft in Jaguars history. _________________

Ehh, the trade up for Harvey wasn't that bad when you see the players available at our original picks. Unless we came away with Jamal Charles and Mario Manningham with our third round picks, whoever we picked there wouldn't have been that good and likely wouldn't be on the team still anyway. _________________
