I have seen Derek Carr mentioned here and there in this forum but I wanted to learn more about him as an NFL prospect. How would you great his accuracy, arm strength, and other physical attributes? Also, what type of pocket presence and mobility does he have? Does he appear to be a leader on the team and able to rally the team?
With some of the question marks surrounding the top talent at the position, what do you think the chance is that Carr could really rise up draft boards and declare early? Where do you think he could end up in the draft eligible QB rankings when it is all said and done?
Any opinions and other thoughts on Carr would be appreciated. _________________

Yes.
He's definitely good. First rounder, maybe, we'll see. His arm strength, vision, decision making and accuracy are all at least above average. Against Nebraska last year, he never had any real big gains on passes, but he kept killing us on 5-15 yard passes. |

With how many QBs have come out and underwhelmed this year, Carr might be a 1st rounder by season's end. He throws a great deep ball with good touch and ball placement. He has solid size with solid athleticism and mobility. And he displays the zip and accuracy on his short to intermediate routes although his decision making can be a tad inconsistent. That's based on last year. Haven't gotten to see him this year.
Also needs to improve his poise under pressure.
But he's a talented prospect. If he improves his footwork and poise under pressure while making better decisions this year, I think he'll get a lot of first round push. _________________

Can make all the throws, is accurate as heck, makes good decisions, poised, is quick can by time but isn't Michael Vick now. Good size Is the unquestioned leader of the Bulldogs... based off this year
Could be a borderline first rounder who could move up to Chris Ponder range, or come back for his senior year with some buzz and become a top 5 pick in 2014 |

Derek Carr's performance against San Diego State has sort of gotten lost in all of the talk about Geno Smith's game against Baylor. Definitely not on part with Smith's game, Carr had a pretty solid day in his own right.

Talked to the staff at Fresno State, and they've assured me Carr will return for his SR year, so I'm putting off my scouting of him until I've finished others for this draft.
There's a lot to like in the brief glances I've had thus far. _________________

I am wondering if there is any chance that Carr could have a change of heart if he was intending on returning to Fresno State for his senior year. With Geno Smith coming back down to earth, Tyler Wilson dealing with a lack of talent around him (largely o-line and defense), and Matt Barkley settling into the prospect that many of us thought he really was - maybe Carr is looking at a shot of climbing to at worst the #2 rated QB should he declare. A team might prefer Carr to Wilson. _________________

As an Fresno State fan, I've seen every single game of Carr. He throws a great deep ball but has some Cutler in him where he trusts his arm way too much. You often see this guy throwing off his back foot and it gets him in trouble. I don't like the way he has performed against the better teams such as Boise State and Oregon. I do hope he returns because the WR core he will have next season will be one of the best in the nation. _________________

Sums up my thoughts. I seriously doubted he'd leave this year, so I took him off the board. Has a bit of talent, but still very much raw around the edges. _________________

There's two things I lve about him.
1. The arm talent. He makes throws I don't se anyone else in colege football making on a consistent basis.
2. The way he moves around buying time while always keping his eyes down field.
I think ther is a chance, I'm not sur yet, that he could b the #1 pick tis year. I definitey think he i thetop QB off the board if e retuns for a senior season. _________________

Yea, I don't know why he'd stay unless he thinks he's not ready. With Geno having some subpar outings and the other QBs underwhelming, he has a shot at going #1. He has the arm talent along with everything else. Even if he didn't go #1, imo, he'd still probably be the 2nd QB taken unless he did terribly in the post-season. _________________
