| Quote: | | NFL suspended Broncos LB Joe Mays for one game for the helmet-to-helmet hit he put on Texans QB Matt Schaub. Mays is appealing suspension. |

Any fines against him for helmet-to-helmet hits before this one? |

No word for this but good.
Mundy should get the same or worse for his hit on DHB. |

| Good he deserved it. Hope Mundy gets a couple games at least for his hit on DHB. I seriously thought DHB might've dead when he was laying there. |

Not sure on helmet to helmet but he was fined last week for roughing the passer against the Falcons. So do follow up a week later with the hit he laid of Schuab was extremely stupid on his part. _________________

As a Bengals fan, I'm hoping that Mundy doesn't get suspended... _________________

Awesome avatar, Babylon.
And yes, Mays deserves the suspension. Perhaps it gives MLB Nate Irving a chance to finally live up to his billing as a promising prospect. In preseason he showed improvement in coverage (although at OLB), something Mays is absolutely awful at. _________________

Justice has been served. I really thought Matt Schaub's season was over, or a good portion of it would be missed with a severe concussion. That hit was blatant and illegal in every sense of the word; Guy just charged into Matt and lowered his head and cracked right into Matt's head. I have a hard time believing his intent was anything but ring Schaub's bell...and he couldn't even do THAT right. _________________

It looked like he hit up on the hit stick. He launched right at Shaub's head. I like the suspension. _________________

Agreed. Mays didn't try to do anything legal, like tackle or get a batted pass. What he did do, was launch himself head-first at Shaub's upper body to try and make a highlight hit and put Shaub at risk. He deserves any punishment he gets. That's the definition of an unnecessary risk hit, and something that should be taken out of the game. No one taught you to tackle/break-up a pass like that. Total bonehead move and there's no excuse for it. |

Didn't even attempt to make a good tackle. There's no place for that in football. Good suspension. _________________

Don't agree with the suspension although I think it makes a point to everyone else that if you play stupid you will pay the price. His fine should be doubled though.
And it's unlikely Nate Irving will be the one to step in, he was injured when he was blocked in the back into Trindon Holliday. It will probably be Keith Brooking or Danny Trevathan who steps in.
Edit- Not to say I think that was a legal hit, it was illegal and there isn't a place for that. I don't think Mays was deliberately trying to head shot Shaub just hit too high and he did apologize after the game. _________________

Where are the Bronco fans. I love hearing them try to defend this as a legal play.
Edit:
Some of my favorite from the Denver forum:

The guy took one to the head. I'm sorry but in the regular NFL that wouldn't have meant anything. I for one, think all these rules protecting players are BS. Ronnie Lott cut off a finger. Getting your bell rung for a play isn't a big deal for me. |

But overall Mays is an idiot and a garbage player the fact that Simms and Nantz said that Mays does everything well literally had me rolling on the floor in laughter. _________________

Fair enough; From everything I've read/heard, Mays is a very nice guy, a standup kid. This isn't a James Harrison "I'mma play how I wanna play," type situation.
I can take solace in that, at least. _________________
