Tylerdouglass thread got me in the spirit of super analyzing our New Orleans Saints. I will be doing a play by play analysis of the offensive line and how they performed. I'm going to keep it pretty simple for time purposes.

Pass Protection
I will keep track of 3 statistics
Sacks allowed - How many times did our bum of a RT let Drew Brees get sacked?
Pressures allowed - How many times did our bum of a RT allow his man to pressure Drew Brees?
QB Hits allowed - How many times did our bum of a RT allow his man to hit Drew Brees?
If no one received a "stat" on the play, they did a good job of protecting our franchise player.
Heres an example
Play - 5 yard completion to Darren Sproles
LT Jermon Bushrod - Good job.
LG Ben Grubbs - Pressure allowed.
C Brian De La Puente - Good job.
RG Jahri Evans - Good job.
RT Zac Strief - Pressure allowed.

I will likely get more in depth with how a player was beat and such, thats just a quick example.

Run Blocking
All I'm doing for this is keeping track of "Missed Blocks" which simply means they got blown up and beat.

Again, it will get more in-depth, this is just a quick example.

Hopefully this will be useful in determining how bad our offensive line truly is, if I have more free time I'll try to do the entire offense but no promises.

Season Totals
LT Jermon Bushrod
Sacks Allowed - 2.5
QB Pressures - 8
QB Hits - 1
Missed Block (Run) - 2

LG Ben Grubbs
Sacks Allowed - 0
QB Pressures - 2
QB Hits - 0
Missed Block (Run) - 1

C Brian De La Puente
Sacks Allowed - .5
QB Pressures - 3
QB Hits - 1

RG Jahri Evans
Sacks Allowed - 0
QB Pressures - 2
QB Hits - 1
Holding - 1

RT Zac Strief
Sacks Allowed -
QB Pressures - 5
QB Hits - 3
Missed Block (Run) - 2

Season totals from week 1 are posted. What I've gathered so far is the run blocking seems to be fine and that Zac Strief sucks. A lot. He got beat like a drum in week 1.

I changed up the way I did it for time purposes, our OL looks great in run blocking. Our OTs really are miserable though, Bushrod got lucky numerous times in week 1. If Brees didn't have such good awareness he's looking at closer to 4 sacks given up...

Seems to me Carl Nicks improved the play of Bushrod... hopefully I am wrong for rest of this season.

Game 2 and Season Totals are updated.

In the second game the run blocking looked much improved, the whole line was getting push and Grubbs and Evans are still the best guard tandem in the league. Both of them are elite players, both looked fantastic pulling on screens and Evans got up field to lay blocks several times.

The pass protection is still miserable. Absolutely miserable. The interior line does a great job but Bushrod and Strief continue to get beat like drums, there was a play where Bushrod trys to create a pocket for Brees and the DE just tosses him to the side like a rag doll and puts pressure on Brees before he throws it away. We need new OTs and we need them yesterday.

Jermon Bushrod has allowed 2.5 sacks and 8 pressures. That puts him on pace for around 18 sacks and 64 QB pressures. Yeah.

Great job man, hope you keep it up!

What's the 2013 draft class like for tackles? Maybe we look to draft one early, will be the first time since Jammal Brown?

It depends. Theirs quite a few Juniors who could declare and make it a strong OT class, but if most/all of them stay for their Senior years, it becomes VERY underwhelming.
