Morgan is a waste of a roster spot. Cut him, now. Banks can play more receiver, it's the only way he'll learn.
Cooley can be the back up TE. He's far better at blocking than Niles Paul is. Paul can play in the slot as a receiver for another year. |

Banks has at least three fumbles in two games...why would they put him as a full-time receiver? I would argue Niles Paul is a noticeably better blocker than Cooley. _________________

No reason to cut Morgan. He made a bad mistake. But this should be locked. _________________

Meh that was really stupid of him hopefully he can redeem himself in the future. TBH the refs let this get out of hand. This game was crazy... Dirty plays from both teams and alot of smack talk too.. By the end emotions were running high and unfortunately it cost us a shot for a tie or win. _________________

I think we're going to have to discuss how to deal with Joshua Morgan's mistake somewhere. It was one of the most noteworthy things about the game, unfortunately.
Just note that if you're not in position to discuss things rationally or respectfully, do yourself and the rest of us a favor and don't press "SUBMIT" on that post until you take a few minutes to catch your breath. Write it up, get the anger out on paper...but don't submit it until you can review it later on. _________________

My sense is that you may have to deactivate Morgan for the next game as long as you have enough warm bodies to cover it (i.e., as long as Garcon is back).
It's one thing to make a physical error (bad throw, missed tackle, getting beat, etc.). It's another thing to make a mental error (not getting out of bounds, blowing a coverage, even a late hit), but those sort of mistakes do happen --- and it's not like you MEANT to do it. In this case, Joshua Morgan made a mental mistake because he was angry and acted selfishly. It's not like he was trying to do something to help the team and just screwed it up. He couldn't control his emotions and got baited by a notorious instigator in Cortland Finnegan... and as a result, the Redskins' last chance to stay in that game was frittered away in one second of childish anger.
There has to be some consequence for that. I don't see why you would cut a player you think has value for you (and he does), but the rest of the team needs to understand putting yourself before the team isn't tolerated. It's a little unfair because guys make selfish decisions like that often, and Morgan's punishment will probably be stiffer because it was at the end of the game. But my drink tonight is going to be stiffer because his mistake was at the end of the game too, so there's no question it's a little different to lose control in the end-game scenario. _________________

| Ridiculous idea. You cant cut a player who made a single mistake, albeit a bad one. He has value to the team and will be a productive receiver this year. Massive but anticipated over reaction. |

Nope, Morgan is a part of this teams future. Everyone makes mistakes. He just has to learn for it. _________________

First off, Morgan is not a part of this team's future. He's in his prime. He's not good. He will be gone in another year or two.
Second, Niles Paul is not half the blocker Cooley is. He's not half the pass catcher Cooley is. He's a slow receiver that Shanahan is trying to force in to tight end.
Third, Morgan is completely replaceable. He doesnt' do anything that Robinson, Hankerson, and/or Fristoe can't do. |

Great idea Slate, let's cut a young receiver with talent for an over-the-hill TE who has zero speed or ability left. _________________

Cooley is not and has never been a good blocker. This is the reason Logan Paulson stuck around for so long, Fred and Chris cannot block. _________________

He made a mistake, but he shouldn't be cut. Shanahan should put him in the doghouse for a couple of games as punishment. He's too valuable to cut just because he made a mental error... _________________

Morgan is 27, he has 2 to 5 good years left in the league. Also, I definitely agree with those who say Paul is a better blocker than Cooley. I love Cooley like everyone in here does, but we have to face the facts. He wants to start and he wasn't going to start here and we have 3 young emerging players at Cooley's position who all bring different specialties to the offesnse, it's similar to our 3 young running backs and why Hightower was not retained.
I don't see Cooley nor Hightower being back unless we have injuries to our young players.
E brings up a good point in dealing with Morgan. Deactivating him next week seems like a good move to send a message. Even if Garçon isn't back healthy, we still have Briscoe who can play a major role and Hankerson looked good today also. We definitely could get away with deactivating Morgan for a week. _________________

Morgan has had, at best, a very mundane career. He's, at best, an average talent. He can easily be replaced in the offseason. Heck, we could have just kept Gaffney. Hankerson should be in his spot anyway. Only way Hank will develop now is if you let him play in real games.
Morgan through a temper tantrum in the final two minutes of the game when the team was driving. It's pretty inexcusable. He's been in the league 4 seasons now. He's seen enough to know that it's always the guy who reacts who gets caught, not the one who initiates.
Cut him. Send a message to the rest of the team. Complete and utter stupidity will not be tolerated. |
