1st series…Webb does a decent job in pass pro on 1st down against Matthews but the Packers bring the ILB on the blitz and Forte does a poor job keeping his shoulders square and taking him on giving up the sack…after being backed up by the sack we go 3 & out…2nd series…after a delay of game penalty the Bears face 3rd & 9…the OLB rushes up the field before using a rip move to get Webb off balance and coming back inside…Webb ends up stopping his feet and bending at the waist as the OLB disengages and gets a free run right up the gut at Jay…1st pressure of the night on Webb…Bears have to punt…3rd series…nice job on 1st down against Matthews…stays on balance absorbing the bull rush…shows power in his hands when engaged with Matthews throwing him aside…Bears get a long PI call out of it…2nd down AJ Hawk lined up as an OLB on the play…tries to speed rush Webb and is completely shut down…nice feet from Webb…but we give up another sack from elsewhere…we play it safe and run the ball before punting…4th series…after picking up two first downs...then getting the BS call on Carimi the Bears face 2nd & 25…Webb is beat all ends up by Matthews…Clay starts out running the arc and as soon as he sees Webb starting to bent at the waist he takes full advantage using a club move to take him totally off balance…after that it’s over and Clay is all over Jay for the sack…3rd down he does a much better job…Matthews tries to rush up field before using a spin move to get back inside but this time Webb keeps balanced…his feet don’t stop and he shuts Matthews down…Bears can’t get the 32 yards they need for the 1st so punt…5th series…1st down and Webb is called for a clear false start…3rd down…Webb & Spencer do a nice job recognizing a stunt between the RE & Matthews…Webb does a nice job stopping the momentum of the RE and Spencer picks up Matthews…Bears pick up the first…on the resulting 1st down Webb does a nice job of absorbing Matthews’ bull rush…hasn’t struggled so far with his power tonight like he has in the past but the speed rush is a killer…2nd down and Jay throws one up for grabs that the Packers pick off…6th series…1st of the 2nd half…3rd down…very lucky not to get a flag for a hold on the play…the OLB comes off the edge with the speed up…Webb doesn’t get anywhere near enough extension in his arms to keep him out of his body…Webb wraps his arm around the OLBs neck and pulls him to the ground but it’s another pressure on Jay who does a good job getting the ball out to Forte for the 1st down…another pressure on Jay on 2nd down…this time Matthews does bull rush Webb back into the pocket almost swatting the ball out of Jay’s hand…Jay gets rid of the ball and almost throws another INT…3rd down he does a solid job in pass pro and Cutler gets the ball to Forte for another 1st…after picking up two more first downs the Bears face 3rd & 4…this time Webb pushes Matthews to the ground when he tries to speed rush…Jay makes a great throw but Marshall can’t bring it in for the TD…Bears kick the field goal…7th series…very solid job on 5 straight running plays showing nice power at the point of attack…Kellen Davis commits a false start then Jay throws another INT…8th series…after the Peanut FF…3rd & 6…this is a very good job in pass pro from Webb…his initial assignment is the Matthews but when he starts to come inside he recognises that the ILB who is lined up on the TE is also coming on the blitz…knowing he has inside help he comes off Matthews to take ILB and stops his rush…Jay has time but Hester drops the catch…Bears punt…9th series…1st play of the drive Jay throws another INT…it’s a good play for Webb tho…he shows good feet to mirror Matthews forcing him to stop his rush…10th series…1st down…Webb gives up initial ground to Matthews’ bull rush but then anchors...Jay has to hold to ball for too long because no one is getting open down the field…Jay then takes off an picks up the 1st down…nice job as a run blocker on the next play…gets his hands on Matthews and controls him away from the lane…Bears pick up another 1st…on 1st down Webb does a great job in pass pro showing his power & engulfing the OLB…2nd down and it’s another pressure…Matthews this time runs a simple speed arc…when he gets level with Webb’s shoulder he dips…Webb bends at the waist and it should be a sack…Cutler tho does a great job of getting away from the pressure but can’t complete the pass…after another sack from elsewhere the Bears face 3rd & 21…Webb does a good job on Matthews but we can’t convert the long yardage…11th series…after the Jennings INT…1st down and it’s another sack given up by Webb…Matthews works upfield…before another rip move pulls Webb off balance…he actually does a nice job of recovering his balance but then Matthews throws a spin move at him and is able to disengage…Jay again is hold the ball a little longer than he should because no one is getting open down the field but Webb has to do a better job…Matthews takes Jay down for the 7 yard loss…2nd down…Webb does a nice job on Matthews reading an inside spin move…mirrors him and shuts down the rush giving Jay time to finally find Marshall…3rd down and it’s another pressure…the exact same move that lead to the last pressure…Matthews runs the speed arc before dipping when he gets level with Webb’s shoulder…Jay has to get rid of the ball earlier than planned and underthrows Marshall in the endzone…Bears have to go for it on 4th down…Matthews tries to bull rush Webb but again he anchors well and gives Jay plenty of time to find Davis down the seam for the TD…12th series…Jay is sacked on back to back plays but Webb wasn’t as fault…Bears then face 3rd & 19…nice patience from Webb on this play…Matthews stands up waiting on Webb to overextend and try to punch him…most likely so he could rip him again…but Webb just mirrors him until Matthews makes the first move then he stops his momentum…Jay has the time to make the throw but we can’t pick up the yardage…we go for it on 4th & 5…Webb doesn’t do a great job but he hold up alright…Jay is put under pressure from elsewhere and throws an INT…Packers run the clock out…

Overall…Webb is infuriately inconsistent…against the Colts he was completely dominant…even against the packers he made some nice plays…especially as a run blocker…but then his technique breaks down horribly and he gives up big time pressure…I believe that breakdowns in technique are mental mistakes and not physicals ones…he let Matthews get in his head and as soon as Webb’s confidence goes so does his game…I get why Tice keeps persisting with him because he does have the ability to dominate but Webb has to get his mind right if he is ever going to be a starting calibre LT in this league.

1st series…1st & 2nd down Spencer struggles with Raji’s power…one in pass pro one when run blocking…3rd & 19…the Bears just run the draw to get off their own goal line…does a good job on Worthy driving him well away from the running lane…Bears punt…2nd series…2nd down…again struggles to keep Raji out of the play…Forte runs to his run…Spencer slide that way to block Raji but doesn’t really slow him down…Raji gets down the line to make the tackle…after a penalty it’s 3rd & 9…Matthews is lined up inside and comes with a straight bull rush…Spencer does a great job turning him to the outside and sealing him off from the pocket…the refs miss a clear hold on Forte and he can’t make the catch…Bears punt…3rd series…Bears pick up a 1st with a PI call…on the resulting 1st down Spencer gives up a sack to Matthews…much like the last play when Matthews was lined up inside he bull rushes Spencer…unlike the last time Spencer can’t turn him to the outside of the pocket…Matthews uses his power and runs right through Spencer for the sack…2nd down is a screen play and Spencer does a nice job selling it and getting up field but the ball should have never been throwing to Forte who was locked up in man coverage and Garza couldn’t get out in time to take Hawk out the play…backed up again we run a draw on 3rd down & punt…4th series…4 straight running play to start the drive…Spencer does a nice job on all 4 plays not only blocking the Dlinemen but also getting to the 2nd level…after Bennett picks up a 1st down the Bears run off tackle to the left with Spencer pulling…he looks athletic in doing so and gets to the OLB…but because of his lack of power he bounces off the OLB and ends up on the ground…the OLB is just standing there and makes the tackle on Bush…then there is a BS call on Carimi and we are backed up again…Cutler is then sacked & it’s 3rd & 32...we complete the pass but can’t pick up the 1st down…punting again…5th series…after a penalty on Webb the Bears face 1st & 15…GB runs a stunt between the RE & Matthews…Spencer & Webb do a good job to recognise it and stop it…Spencer does a nice job pushing Matthews well away from Jay allowing him to complete the pass downfield for the 1st to Forte…on the 2nd play following the 1st down Jay throws and INT and we’re off the field…6th series…1st of the 2nd half…2nd down and Forte runs off to the run…this time Spencer tries to cut block Raji back again can’t get him to the ground and Raji works down the line…back to back 3rd downs and the Bears pick up new sets of downs…on 2nd down & 10 and the Bears run a dive to the left…Spencer does a really good job getting to the 2nd level and talking Hawk out of the play…Bush picks up 9 yards…after picking up another 1st on 3rd down Spencer pancakes Pickett opening up a nice cut back lane for Bush and it’s another good gain of 8 yards…2nd down and the Bears try to run it again…Spencer this time shows a lack of power in trying to move Pickett and he would have been in position to make a tackle had Bush not been tackled in the backfield from elsewhere…3rd & 4 and again a lack of power sees Spencer struggling with Raji…if Garza doesn’t come across on the double team Raji would have went right through Spencer…Jay has time tho and gets the ball to the endzone for what should have been a TD to Marshall had he held on…we have to kick the field goal…7th series…1st down and Bush runs off tackle to the right…Spencer does a good job getting to the 2nd level but once he is there he doesn’t block anyone…he should have been blocking the off-side ILB who simply works down the line and makes the tackle on Bush…had Spencer made the block it would have been a big gain…2nd down…another dive run up the middle…Spencer & Garza do a nice job double teaming the NT out of the play allowing Bush to run for 4 yards…3rd down…another dive run and Spencer gets to the 2nd level to block Hawk well…Bears pick up another 1st down…2nd & 3…Spencer this time is asked to block the NT one on one…he doesn’t have the power to do so & Pickett throws him to the ground and gets in on the TFL…really poor play…after another penalty we face 3rd & 11…Jay throws another INT…8th series…after the Peanut FF…1st down and it’s another run…Spencer is blocking Pickett but doesn’t move him at all…Pickett then assists on the tackle…2nd down…Raji beats him straight up on a pass rush…Spencer doesn’t even get a hand on him and Jay is under a ton of pressure…tries to throw it to Spaeth but Raji is so close he tips it at the LOS…3rd down and he does a nice job on Matthews in pass pro stopping his momentum and giving Jay time…he throws to Hester who drops it…we punt it away…9th series…1st down and Jay has some time but throws the ball up for another INT…10th series…1st down and Jay scrambles for another 1st…on the resulting 1st down Spencer finally does a nice job one on one against Pickett…he controls him to open up a lane for Bush to run a dive getting the NT to the ground…but the backside OLB comes in to make the play for little gain…2nd & 8 Jay finds Bennett for a 1st down…on 1st & 10 Spencer is walked back into the Worthy giving up another pressure on Jay…Worthy almost gets his hand on the ball but Jay is able to step up and away from the pressure but can’t complete the pass…2nd down & it’s another sack on Jay because he can’t find anyone open down field but Spencer did a solid job…3rd & 21 now and we can’t pick up the 1st…Bears punt…11th series…after the Jennings INT…1st down and it’s another sack because no one is open down field…2nd down we face 2 & 17…2nd & 3rd down Spencer does a nice job in pass pro but we can’t pick up the 1st so go for it on 4th down…Spencer again is solid in pass pro and Jay completes the pass to Davis for the TD…12th series…another sack on 1st down because no one is open downfield…that is 3 sacks where the coverage played a big part…Spencer was solid tho…2nd down and it’s another sack…again Spencer did his job…3rd down & 24…we just run the draw to get us off our own goal line…after a penalty on GB it’s 3rd & 19…Jay finds Marshall for 15 yards to give us a 4th & 4…Jay then throws a 4th INT but Spencer was solid enough…Packers run the clock out…

Overall…As bad as it is to say considering Spencer gave up a sack & 2 pressures he didn’t play as badly as I thought he did watching the game live…he struggles mightily with power…his pass pro technique is inconsistent & he wears down as the game goes on…Spencer is listed at 309lbs…I don’t think he is close to that weight looking at the way he anchors…for what Tice has had in his Olinemen in the past Spencer isn’t a fit…he is a very good positional run blocker and as athletic as any interior linemen I can think of but he is a misfit in this scheme…I can’t see him being back next year and he should be under pressure right now from both the Williams.

1st series…1st down Jay goes down for a sack but Garza has a solid start in pass pro…2nd down and the Bears run Forte to the right…Garza snaps the ball and pulls to the right…he does a nice job getting round the corner but has no leverage and his block on the Raji is poor…pretty much so just bounces off him…3rd down and we run a draw before punting…2nd series…2nd down and Garza is again asked to snap and pull to the right to lead Forte…again he looks smooth getting to the outside but his block on Hawk is poor…doesn’t really move…3rd down and Garza is late in making his adjustments on the Oline…delay of game penalty and we are backed up…solid double team with Louis on 3rd down but we can’t pick up the yardage and punt…3rd series…nice job on 3rd down against Raji in pass pro…Jay fires downfield and we get a PI call…on the resulting 3 down B.J Raji just makes a great play…Garza doesn’t do a great job selling the screen…Raji reads it…stops his rush and gets into the passing lane…Spencer can’t handle Matthews on the blitz…Garza is late to help out after Raji stopped his rush and Jay has to eat the sack…Bears try to run the screen again on 2nd down…again Garza is a major part of the failure…there is no one lined up over him so he has a free run off the LOS to get to the 2nd level on Hawk…he takes a bad angle and Hawk uses his speed to get to Forte before the ball even reaches him…Garza has to do better on screens…3rd & 22 now and the Bears run a draw…Garza does a nice job on Worthy getting him to the ground…we can’t pick up the yardage and punt…4th series…solid run blocking on 1st down…2nd down tho he is asked to handle Raji one on one and is driven back into the backfield…Bush can’t hit the hole the play was designed to go through and has to cut it back for a short yard gain…3rd down and he is more solid against Pickett giving Bush a hole to pick up a 1st…next play and Garza & Spencer do a solid job double teaming Raji to give Bush a little space on the ground…2nd down and Jay has the time to find Bennett down field for another 1st…on 2nd down Hawk takes a dive and we are backed up again…another solid job from Garza in pass pro but Jay is sacked again…3rd & 32 now…Garza is beaten by Pickett with a rip move…he gets Gaza off balance with the rip them swims him to the ground…Garza has to do a better job of not bending at the waist…Jay gets the ball off to Alshon but he can’t pick up the yardage and we punt…5th series…after a penalty we face 1st & 15…nice job in pass pro…Garza has no one lined up infront of him so he waits to see if there are any late blitzer from the 2nd level…once he reads there isn’t he comes across and drives Worthy out of the play when he is engaged with Spencer…Jay has time and almost finds Bennett but he’s just out of bounds…2nd down and it’s another nice job from Garza in pass pro…Jay has time and finds Forte out of the backfield for a 1st down…on the resulting 1st down Garza does a nice job one on one against Worthy in pass pro…Jay has some time but he underthrows Alshon down the sideline…2nd down and Jay throws an INT…6th series…1st of the 2nd half…on 1st down we run the ball…Garza is asked to block Raji one on one…he does a good job stopping Raji’s momentum back can’t move him anywhere…when Forte cuts back Raji just puts an arm out and pulls Forte down…2nd down Garza gets to the 2nd level but stumbles and misses his block on the ILB who works his way down the line and makes the tackle on Forte…3rd down Garza does a nice job one on one against Matthews in pass pro…Cutler finds Forte out of the backfield for a 1st down…the Bears run to the left…Garza & Spencer double team Raji but once Spencer slides off the block to get to the 2nd level Raji gets off Garza’s block to help on the tackle…3rd down and Garza does a solid job in pass pro allowing Cutler to find Forte again for the 1st down…the rest of the series is solid for Garza and Marshall should have caught a TD pass but we are forced to kick the field goal…7th series…1st down and Garza is asked to snap and pull to his right to lead Bush upfield…he does a nice job getting outside and this time gets a good cut block on Hawk getting Bush a couple more yards…two more solid run blocking downs and Bush picks up another 1st down…on the resulting 1st down Raji pushes him back into the backfield but Bush has enough speed to get to the outside for a good gain…on 2nd down Raji blasts him into the backfield…about 4 yards deep into the backfield and almost takes Armando Allen’s head off…after a false start penalty we face 3rd & 11…nice job against Worthy in pass pro from Garza but Jay makes a throw he never should have and it’s another INT…8th series…after the Peanut FF…poor series all round from the offence…Garza is solid enough tho…9th series…1st play of the series and Jay throws into double coverage for another INT…10th series…Jay scrambles on 1st down for another first…after another penalty the Bears face 2nd & 20…Garza gives up a sack on this play to Pickett who catches him with the exact same rip & swim move as he used to throw him the ground in the 1st half…1st down and Pickett again dominates Garza walking him back into the pocket then throwing him to the ground…Jay does a good job stepping away from the pressure but can’t complete the pass downfield and we are punting again…11th series…after the Jennings INT…good job on 1st down in pass pro but Jay is sacked from elsewhere…very solid on the rest of the series allowing Jay to find Davis for the TD…12th series…1st down and Garza again can’t deal with Raji one on one…he is pushed aside and Raji would have sacked Jay had another packer not got there first…2nd down…better job in pass pro but Jay again goes down for a sack…the Bears run a draw on 3rd down but don’t pick up the long yardage…a penalty is called on GB so we get another shot on the 3rd down but still can’t pick up the 1st so go for it on 4th down…another pressure allowed by Garza…again to Pickett who gets him bent at the waist with a rip move and is coming straight up the barrel at Jay who gets rid of it but again it is picked off…Packers run the clock out…

Overall…a poor performance from Garza…surprisingly he really lacked intensity and was outworked by the Packers NTs…giving up a sack & 3 pressures right in the face of Jay is always going to be a problem…his run blocking at times was decent but again there was just a lack of intensity…as the leader of the Oline he must set the tone and he struggled to do that against the Packers…hopefully it was a one off since he has been solid since moving to centre but he has to pick it up for next week.

1st series…2nd down and the Bears run off tackle to the right…Louis is asked to pull to the outside of Carimi & Davis…he does a great job getting outside and throws a nice block on the ILB to get Forte a few more yards…3rd down and the Bears run a draw before punting…2nd series…Louis does a nice job on 1st down first blocking the DL before coming off the block to help Carimi with the OLB but Jay is pressured from elsewhere and can’t complete the pass to Forte…2nd down…the exact same play as on 2nd down on the 1st series…Bears run off tackle to the right…Louis pulls round the corner…this time he does a great job blocking the OLB to give Forte a lane and a decent gain of 6 yards…after a penalty the Bears face 3rd & 9…solid job in pass pro doubling up with Garza on Worthy…Bears should have got the 1st down on a penalty but it wasn’t called so the Bears punt…3rd series…1st down…Louis does a nice job in pass pro against Pickett one on one…keeps his feet moving…knees bend…sinking his hips…great extension of his arms and matches Pickett’s intensity…very good technique and strength which leads to Jay going downfield to Davis who draws a PI call…on the resulting 1st down Louis gets some help from Gabe on blocking Pickett in pass pro and they do a solid job but Jay goes down from the other side of the line for a sack…2nd down is a poor play from Louis…lined up one on one against Raji he is beaten by a swim move…gets caught off balance bending at the waist…it could have been to sell the screen but I doubt he is that good an actor lol…Raji stops going after Jay because he reads the screen and gets out to help make the stop on Forte for a loss…bears now face 3rd & 22…the Bears run a draw with Louis pulling to his left…he does a nice job getting to the corner and once Forte is through the hole he blocks the OLB chasing back up the field but we can’t pick up the yardage and punt…4th series…1st down the Bears run a dive…Louis does a nice job blocking Pickett to open up some space for Bush…2nd down he does an even better job…Bears run the same kind of dive play…Louis & Carimi double up on Pickett before Louis slides off the block and getting to the 2nd level on the ILB…had Kellen Davis been able to maintain his block on the OLB Bush would have been running to nothing but green…but with the OLB getting off the block Bush is tackled just before the 1st down marker…3rd down…again a dive play right behind Louis…he moves the DL off the LOS and Bush picks up the 1st down…another dive play behind Louis on the resulting 1st down…Louis is one on one with Pickett on the play and again does a great job of moving him to the outside of the running lane then sealing him off even when Pickett tries a spin move back inside…2nd down and the Bears are passing downfield to Bennett…Louis again looks great in pass pro…against Raji this time…he matches his intensity and maintains his technique to keep Raji out of the pocket…on the resulting 1st down Louis is asked to pull to his left to lead Bush…problem is as he tries to pull Garza is pushed back into the backfield and Louis hits off him…the play goes nowhere…then there is the BS call on Carimi and the Bears are backed up to 2nd & 25…another nice job in pass pro this time against a blitzing AJ Hawk but Jay is taken down from the left hand side of the line…3rd & 32…Louis doubles up with Carimi to take care of the LOLB and Jay completes the pass but we can’t pick up the yardage and punt…5th series…after a penalty on Webb the Bears start at 1st & 15…another rock solid series from Louis in pass pro…really has been good all day…the Bears move the ball down the field for a 1st down but then Jay throws his 1st INT…6th series…first of the 2nd half…nice job one on one against Pickett in the run game again on 1st down…2nd down…Louis is again asked to pull to his right to lead Bush round the corner…does a nice job getting outside and gets a decent hit on the OLB…3rd down…another excellent play in pass pro…Louis blocks Matthews one on one…Matthews then tries to get off the block because the play is for him and the NT to stunt…Louis reads it…moves Matthews to the inside where there is helps from Garza before coming off the block to pick up the stunting NT…he blocks him out the play giving Jay time to get the ball downfield to Forte for a 1st down…2nd down…solid job in pass pro against the LOLB who is coming on the inside blitz…stonewalls him…3rd down…Matthews is lined up inside on Louis…he comes hard but Louis does a great job pushing him to the outside of the pocket before pushing him to the ground…very good play which allows Jay to find Forte for another 1st down…on the 1st down Louis doubles up with Garza on Raji before recognising a late blitz from Hawk and sliding off the block to pick him up throwing him to the ground…2nd down…another solid job run blocking Pickett…3rd down and the Bears run a bootleg to get Spaeth open to pick up the short gain for a 1st…solid job all round from the line…on the resulting 1st down Louis again does a nice job doubling up on the DL before recognising the late blitzer and stonewalling him…Bush is able to cut it back for a gain of 8…on 2nd down Louis is asked to pull to his left to lead Bush to the outside…he does a nice job taking Matthews to the ground but the play is destroyed from the inside before it can really get going…Bush is tackled for a loss…3rd down and Jay throws it to Marshall in the endzone for what should have been a TD…again it’s a great job in pass pro from Louis matching the intensity of the NT to block him one on one and keeping his technique solid…the Bears kick the field goal…7th series…nice job on 2nd down as a run blocker again Raji…the Bears line block to the left and Louis comes down the line to push Raji out of the running lane getting Bush a solid 4 yard gain…another solid job on 3rd down to open up a hole for Bush to get the 1st…on the resulting 1st down Louis again is asked to run block Pickett one on one…does another solid job…another tackle for loss and a penalty and the Bears face 3rd & 11…another great recognition for Louis…Carimi does a nice job cut blocking Matthews to the ground but the play takes so long to develop that he gets back up off the ground and has a clear run at Cutler…Louis however has kept his head on a swivel and blocks Matthews out of the play…the OLB on the other side is getting pressure on Jay tho and he throws one up for an INT…8th series…after the Peanut FF…Bears go 3 & out but it’s a very solid series all round for Louis…9th series…Jay throws an INT on 1st down…off the field again…10th series…Jay runs for a 1st down on the first play of the drive…Louis is solid as a run blocker on the resulting first down but does a great job on the next two downs in pass pro…the first he shows his power & stoutness against the NT one on one getting him to the ground…on the 2nd play he recognises that Carimi is in trouble and gets outside to block the OLB to the ground allowing Jay time to get away from the pressure but he can’t complete the pass…2nd & 10 and Jay goes down again for the sack with no one down the field getting open…3rd & 21 now and Jay is again under pressure but Louis isn’t at fault…Jay steps away and throws downfield but it falls incomplete and the Bears punt…11th series…after the Jennings INT…another great job in pass pro against Pickett one on one…really impressed with his intensity, strength & technique all night long but Jay goes down again from the other side of the line…2nd & 17 and again Louis handles Pickett one on one in pass pro very well giving Jay time to find Marshall for a good gain…3rd & 7 and again Louis handles Pickett in pass pro but Jay can’t find Marshall in the endzone…Bears go for it on 4th down…lined up one on one in pass pro against Raji Louis is almost beaten by a swim move but adjusts before he is off balance…he then reloads his punch and pushes Louis aside…very good strength…Jay has time to find Davis down the seam for a TD…12th series…Jay goes down for another sack on 1st down but it’s not on Louis…2nd down and Jay is down again for a sack again but it’s not on Louis…on 3rd down the Bears run a draw that doesn’t get us the yardage but a penalty on the Packers gives us another shot…Jay has time on the 3rd down and finds Marshall but he is just short of the 1st down…4th down and Jay throws up a INT when he has a little time…Packers run out the clock to end the game…

Overall…by far our best linemen on the day…Louis matched the intensity of any of the 3 NTs he faced on the day…he handled Matthews on the occasions he was matched up against him…his pass pro all day was excellent and his run blocking on the move and inline was strong…as bad as the rest of the Oline was Louis had a very good game…hopefully he can continue this throughout the season.

1st series…good job one on one against Worthy lined up at LE on 1st down…handles him in pass pro with ease but Jay goes down for the sack from elsewhere…2nd down…again Carimi handles Worthy this time when run blocking showing strong hands to control Worthy from getting to the hole…3rd play and it’s a draw to get us out of trouble…Bears punt…2nd series…solid job in pass pro on 1st down…but he shows his true strength on 2nd down when run blocking taking Worthy to the ground and opening up a nice hole for Forte to get a decent gain…3rd down after the delay of game penalty and its 3rd & 9…Carmi does a solid job in pass pro against the LOLB but Jay can’t complete the ball to Forte because he is being held and the refs missed it…we punt…3rd series…1st down and Carimi does a nice job mirroring the OLB giving Jay time to throw down the seam to Davis who draws a PI call…resulting 1st down and Carimi doubles up with Louis inside before coming off the block to pick up the blitzing OLB…Jay goes down from elsewhere for the sack tho…2nd down and the Bears run a screen to the left which fails…3rd down and backed up we run a draw to the left…Carimi shows a good motor working down field better than the rest of our Oline but we can’t pick up the 1st and punt…4th series…nice job on 1st down blocking down to seal off the LE to allow Bush to run off tackle to the right for a good gain of 7 yards…2nd down and again it’s a good job paving the way for Bush…Carimi gets Pickett to the ground and Bush gets a few yards…3rd down and again it’s a dive play to the right…this time Carimi does a solid job on the OLB and Bush picks up the 1st down…next we run a draw to Carimi’s side and he does a nice job letting the OLB work up the field before stopping him from chasing the play down from behind…2nd down and Carimi does a solid job in pass pro allowing Jay the time to find Bennett down field for the 1st down...this is the play the BS penalty is called on Carimi for retaliating to Hawk…it costs us 15 yards but that not a specific Oline penalty so I won’t could it against him (and it was an idiotic call lol)…2nd & 25 now…again a really nice job from Carimi showing a smooth kickslide to mirror the LOLB’s speed rush…he then stops his momentum on contact…but again Jay goes down from elsewhere…3rd & 32…another nice job in pass pro giving Jay time to throw to Alshon but he can’t pick up the yardage so we punt again…5th series…after a penalty on Webb we start at 1st & 15…Carimi & Louis do a nice job doubling up on the LE to give Jay time to get the ball down field but he leads the receiver a step too far and it’s out of bounds…2nd down…Carimi again shows a nice kickslide to mirror the OLB…when the OLB changes his rush to a bull Carimi initially gives up ground but then pushes the rusher to the ground giving Jay time to throw to Forte in the middle of the field for a 1st down…on the resulting 1st down Carimi does a nice job against the speed rush of the OLB pushing him well past the pocket and far away from Jay who throws downfield to Alshon but it is almost picket off…2nd down…great job from Carimi & Louis on this play…the LE & OLB initiate contact then run a stunt…both read the play with Louis picking up the OLB and Carimi pushing the LE to the ground…Jay again has time but throws the INT…6th series…1st of the 2nd half…1st & 2nd down Carimi does a solid job as a run blocker…on 3rd down Carimi does a solid enough job giving Jay time to step up and throw another 1st down to Forte…after a run on 1st down we look to pass on 2nd down…Carimi gives up a bad pressure…I will say it was a tough match up for any tackle against a blitzing Charles Woodson…Woodson runs right at Carimi and as soon as he feels Carimi’s hands on him he spins to the inside…Carimi obviously can’t match the speed and Woodson is coming straight up the barrel at Jay…like I said it was a tough matchup but it has to go down as a pressure…3rd down and Carimi does a nice job in pass pro against Perry…mirrors him up field then when Perry tries to cut underneath he matched the move and keeps him well away from Jay giving him time to find Forte for another 1st down…on the resulting 1st down Carimi gives up another pressure…the Packers stunt the LE to the inside and Louis follows him which leaves Carimi with the blitzing ILB & OLB off of play action…Bush picks up the ILB but Carimi works to the outside to stop the speed rush he is expecting…but with Louis blocking down on the LE there is a ton of space for the OLB to work inside…he beats Carimi for speed into the gap and is coming down the barrel at Jay who can’t find Davis down field…2nd down and Gabe does a nice job sealing off the backside pursuit of both the LE & LOLB as Bush runs off tackle to the left…3rd & 1 and we fins Spaeth off of play action for the 1st down…very good job on the resulting 1st down run blocking against the LOLB…takes him well out of the play…another nice job mirroring the LOLB as a run blocker but Bush is tackled in the backfield as he tries to run off to the left…3rd down and Gabe does a nice job giving Jay time to throw downfield to Marshall but he can’t hold on for the TD and we kick the field goal…7th series…another nice job on 1st down as a run blocker taking the LE to the ground…2nd down and again as a run blocker Gabe gets to the 2nd level and controls the ILB getting Bush a few extra yards…3rd & 1 now…another nice job as a run blocker sealing the LOLB to allow Bush to run up the middle for a 1st…Gabe again got his man to the ground…another two running downs where Gabe looked solid & a penalty has us backed up on 3rd & 11…in pass pro Gabe is matched up with Matthews…he does a nice job cut blocking him to the ground but the play takes so long to develop that Matthews gets back up and restarts his rush but Louis is there to tidy the play up…Jay tho is under pressure from the other side and throws up an INT…8th series…after the Peanut FF…1st & 10 and Gabe does another solid job as a run blocker…2nd down…this is what you want to see from Gabe…Worthy tries to bull rush him…he anchors instantly then throws Worthy to the ground…3rd down and he does a great job trusting the blocking scheme…he has the LOLB & a NB blitzing his side…the NB is closing on him quicker but because he is the outside man he leaves him and picks up his assignment of the LOLB…by the time the NB gets round the corner on the wide arc Jay has thrown the ball but Hester drops it…Bears punt…9th series…Jay has time but throws an INT on the first play into double coverage…10th series…nice job of anchoring on 1st down in pass pro allowing Jay the time to hold on to the ball until he sees no one is open and takes off for a good gain and another 1st down…solid job from Gabe on the next two downs as a run & pass blocker…Jay finds Bennett downfield for another 1st down…on 1st & 10 Gabe does another solid job as a pass protector giving Jay time to get the ball downfield but it’s an underthrow and falls incomplete…2nd & 10…another pressure against Gabe…Perry for the 1st time in the game runs a straight speed arc…Game sets expecting the bull rush but it’s a short set and allows Perry to go right round the outside of him…would have been a sack had Jay not done a great job of getting away from both Perry and Matthews who is coming from the other side and gets a pressure too…but Jay can’t complete the pass making the wrong option to throw to…2nd & 10…much better job from Carimi on Perry stopping his speed arc…Jay however goes down again from outside…3rd & 21 now…another pressure against Gabe…Perry again comes from the LOLB position with a speed arc…Carimi initially pushes him up the field but not with enough power and Perry is able to work back towards Jay forcing him to step up…could have been a 1st down but Davis slips and we have to punt…11th series…after the Jennings INT…solid job in pass pro but Jay goes down from elsewhere…2nd & 3rd down Gabe does a solid job in pass pro but isn’t really challenged…we have to go for it on 4th down…nice job in pass pro against Perry to give Jay time to find Davis down the seam for the TD…12th series…nice job on 1st down but again Jay goes down from elsewhere in pass pro…and the same on the next play…Gabe shuts down Perry but Jay is sacked from the other side of the line…3rd down we run a draw since we are backed up so much on our own line…GB are called for a penalty and we get a 2nd chance at it…another nice job in pass pro this time against Pickett taking him to the ground but again Jay throws a ball he never should have and it’s an INT…Packers take the ball and run out the clock…

Overall…not a good day as a pass protector for Gabe…interestingly enough one thing I noticed is as the game wore on his technique began to fail on more occasions and he was giving up more pressures…Tice said he didn’t feel Carimi was 100% back before the Colts game and he might have to rotate him…I think the short week between the Colts & Packers game was maybe a bridge too far coming back from such a long layoff…hopefully with the time to rest he has had he can get back to better form against the rams because 4 pressures in a game is unacceptable long term.

I wrote this in another thread.

This OL has NO value until they can do something consistently. Right now you cannot game plan properly because you never know what performance you are going to get.

We need to solidify the left side of this line. Tice needs to stop this 7th round experiment he is big and thats his skill set. Throw any QB behind this line and watch the failure. Lets hope Emery has a trade in mind to get a competent LT or its going to be a long season with Campbell as our QB sooner than later.

Reading through MM90's analysis of Webb's performance it seems that Matthews came at him with a lot more power and speed and a different move set than he faced against the Colts. He can obviously block and does have some talent but these lapses in concentration happen far too often and are capitalized on quickly by a player of Matthews' quality. Going to go out on a limb and say he will have a good game against the Rams, hopefully this performance against the Packers will give him a kick up the backside after Jay yelling at him and I imagine Tice would have had a few words too. Wouldn't be surprised if he's really poor again in a couple of weeks though, such a frustrating player.

Neither is Dwight Freeney, I know it was only one quarter against him but he did perform well.

I just think he'll have a better game next week, he can't have two in a row like that... Surely? Confused

The problem extends to the fact that Spencer is not dry good at LG.

Webb last week dominated Jerry Hughes a draft bust and then he was exposed.

What happens when we face DeMarcus Ware in the next couple of weeks.

Why can't we go back to our success last year?! We can put CW in at LG and put spencer as a backup, he hasn't played well so far. The right side of the line seems ok so far. Louis seems to quietly be playing adequate.

Overall this is not a talented group thats the bottom line next year I expect OL as the number 1 position of need.

I wouldn't mind Spencer and Louis swapping spots. Spencer played well at RG last season. RG is the easier position so who knows if Louis would be any better but his skill suits LG a bit better then Spencer.

That's going to require either landing a very high draft pick, or trading for one. And with the age of the defense, trading for one is just going to create a deficit at another position.

I honestly think we need to have a conversation about Carimi at LT. No matter how you look at it he is our best OT.

LT Carimi
LG E Williams
C Garza
RG Louis
RT C. Williams/ J Scott

I know it throws off what Carimi is doing at RT but we are desperate.

I am down for that experiment. .

I still think Carimi would be better at RT.

But we are desperate and we need to put our best OLmen at LT to protect Jays blindside.

The conversation needs to happen.

There is no doubt the game plan sucked. But part of the blame goes to the inconsistent play of the OL.

Mike Tice probably looked at the Colts film and saw the line played well and created a game plan based on that, not adjusting at halftime is on Tice.

I think that the discussion of Carimi to LT has to happen and we can then put one of the scrubs at RT where we can mitigate the damage a bit.

I know continuity and time are important, but they will not make guys more talented and what we saw on Thursday was guys just getting beat up by better players.

Plus if Carimi shows he can play LT then we go into next offseason needing a RT and that is much easier to find.
