Raiders roster is currently at 87.
Aug. 28 roster will be cut to 75
Aug. 31 roster cut to 53
34 players will be cut as this 2012 roster rounds out.
Predictions - Who's gone who stays and what other shakeups come in McKenzie's first NFL roster?
My prediction:
Aug 28 - 7 players cut:**Edit actually 12** pick your least fav 5 and put them in lol.
Conroy Black CB, Kyle Efaw TE, Nick Howell OL, Korey Bosworth LB, Mason Brodine DE, Wayne Dorsey DE, Deandre Muhammad WR
These players haven't shown much to this point. Look like the first to go
Aug 31 - 27 players cut (comments on some, practice squad PS)
Offense:
Kyle Newhall-Cabellero QB - PS
Derek Carrier WR - PS
Brandon Carswell WR
Kevin Haslam - T
Tory Humphrey TE
Rashawn Jackson RB
Thomas Mayo WR
Eddie McGee WR PS
Colin Miller C PS
Trivionte Sessions WR
Manese Tonga FB
Ed Wang OL
Lonyae Miller RB - Can't keep 4.
Dan Knapp OL
Defense:
Kaelin Burnett LB - Minicamp success hasn't translated over. PS
Jamie Cumbie DT PS
Hall Davis DE
Aaron Henry S PS
Terrail Lambert CB
Chaz Powell - S
Nathan Stupar LB
Curtis Taylor CB
Chimdi Checkwa CB - Loses out to DVD
Chad Kilgore LB - Nacho beats him out. PS
Brandon Underwood S
Special Teams:
Marquett King P
Eddie Carmona K
I expect a 6th WR to be added. Oline will likely see some additional talent. Could see Nix, Barksdale being cut when this happens. _________________

I thought that too ( first cut to 80) based on a link for important dates from the beginning of the season, but now ESPN is reporting that the first roster cut is to 75 (on the 28th). _________________ Bah-Weep-Granah-Weep-Nini-Bong

Yeah, I'm pretty positive its 75. In the past I think there was some 80 cut down, but this year it is 75. I think Greg Papa mentioned that during the game too.
Hope Leinart gets healthy so we can afford to cut Newhall-Caballero. If not, we may need to keep him for the 4th game |

You guys are right. 75 by the 28th. ESPN important dates has it messed up. Leinart is fine by all accounts and could have played but they gave him the night off.
Move and additional 5 players into my 28th cuts. _________________

I'm thinking the first round of cuts (12 players) goes as follows:
RB/FB Rashawn Jackson
WR Thomas Mayo
WR DeAundre Muhammad
WR Derek Carrier
TE Tory Humphrey
OL Nick Howell
DE Mason Brodine
DE Wayne Dorsey
LB Korey Bosworth
CB Conroy Black
CB Curtis Taylor
S Chaz Powell
Pretty standard. I kept Newhall-Caballero because I think they'll still need the QB reps in practice with Leinart out. In addition, Marquette King sticks around to kick in the final game, while Carmona stays as Janikowski insurance.
I cut Humphery instead of Efaw because with Myers back I don't think there's a realistic chance that we bring in a veteren tight end and Efaw could be PS material. Same idea with Hall Davis staying over Mason Brodine.
However, this reasoning could all be moot because 22 more cuts have to be made after Thursday's game. My preliminary guesses(with practice squad!) with the knowledge that it's likely that McKenzie brings in a couple guys who were cut from other camps:
QB (3) - 1. Carson Palmer 2. Matt Leinart 3. Terrelle Pryor
RB (3) - 1. Darren McFadden 2. Taiwan Jones 3. Mike Goodson
FB (2) - 1. Marcel Reece 2. Owen Schmitt
WR (6) - 1. Darrius Heyward-Bey 2. Denarius Moore 3. Jacoby Ford 4. Rod Streater 5. Juron Criner 6. Eddie McGee
TE (3) - 1. Brandon Myers 2. Richard Gordon 3. David Ausberry
OT(3) 1. Jared Veldheer 2. Khalif Barnes 3. Joe Barksdale
OG (3) 1. Mike Brisiel 2. Cooper Carlisle 3. Tony Bergstrom
OC (2) 1. Stefen Wisniewski 2. Alex Parsons
DE (4) 1. Lamarr Houston 2. Matt Shaughnessy 3. Dave Tollefson 4. Jack Crawford
DT (4) 1. Richard Seymour 2. Tommy Kelly 3. Desmond Bryant 4. Christo Bilukidi
OLB (4) 1. Phillip Wheeler 2. Aaron Curry 3. Miles Burris 4. Carl Ihenacho
ILB (3) 1. Rolando McClain 2. Travis Goethel 3. Nathan Stupar
CB (6) 1. Ron Bartell 2. Shawntae Spencer 3. Chimdi Chekwa 4. Pat Lee 5. Demarcus Van Dyke 6. Bryan McCann
S (4) - 1. Tyvon Branch 2. Michael Huff 3. Mike Mitchell 4. Matt Giordano
ST (3) - K. Sebastian Janikowski P. Shane Lechler LS. Jon Condo
Probably a tackle short, and they might want some Rolando insurance but they probably need to take McCann to return punts, at least for week one, considering the injuries to Ford and Moore so I felt like they could probably go into week one with 8 linemen and, at worst, 5 linebackers (with Curry still being out and McClain getting suspended, though they would probably bring in a linebacker with the extra roster spot if the latter were the case)
Practice Squad:
1. QB Kyle Newhall-Caballero
2. WR Brandon Carswell
3. TE Kyle Efaw
4. OG Lucas Nix
5. DE Hall Davis
6. DT Dominique Hamilton
7. LB Chad Kilgore
8. LB Kaelin Burnett |

Since Reggie & Co. have all the practice tape and game tape, they have my full backing on whatever decisions they make. |

What surprise cuts do you guys see coming?
Mine is Barksdale. He's is just awful. Watched him closely last night, he gets beaten frequently by his man. On one run by Goodson, he just flat whiffed the block and it was blown up for a loss. Embarrassing.
Simply haven't seen anything out of him. Laughable to think he'd supplant Barnes this offseason. _________________

What's this guys deal? If he doesn't work out at RT, I wouldn't be opposed to trying him at guard. _________________

He's crap all the way around IMO. Haven't seen anything positive from him all offseason. Sounds like they've played him at G and T and the guy just sucks.
My guess, he makes the 53 and is cut when something better in FA comes about. _________________

...how would Barksdale be surprising? He's played like ish, was drafted in a previous regime and was only a 4th round pick. The only way he stays is if they trust him over Haslam. God, the thought of either of them starting in place of an injured Veldheer bothers me. |

I could see this if they somehow find a better option in FA. The only problem is that if you can't find something better but still cut him, then you're stuck with Wang and/or Haslam as your swing tackle. This is problematic due to the fact that Haslam and Wang are bad and/or injured |

Thats too bad. I thought maybe he would make that practice squad but others stepped up. Hard for a UFA S to make this team with Branch/Huff/Gio and Mitchell showing well. |

I just hope we sign a better backup Center after all the cuts happen. Not confident in our backups if Wiz should go down. |

Barksdale has been awful. The guy had a big opportunity to take the RT spot and did nothing but look slow. He may have lost weight since college but his feet are still slow.
I miss Langston Walker. _________________
