What a crazy 19 inning victory against the Cards. Such a huge victory. A loss there could have done some serious damage mentally to the team. Gutsy performance and they were able to take two of three on the road against a team they are fighting with for the playoffs.

Have some optimism. Tabata came up from triple A after being pretty hot for a couple weeks. Walker can play, they just aren't rushing him.

Have some optimism. Tabata came up from triple A after being pretty hot for a couple weeks. Walker can play, they just aren't rushing him. |
I'm usually an optimist, but this team isn't playing like a playoff team lately.
Tabata being here just makes me less optimistic. He's just awful. He's heartless.

True... I just hope he actually earns that ridiculous contract they offered him.
But I'd rather look on the bright side, he seemed to get rejuvenated in Triple A, and maybe he'll become a better player. And it's only for 15 days. Marte will be back before you know it. Tabata being on the team isn't going to cause them to on a losing streak solely on his presence in the lineup.

Every team has strides of not playing well. It's impossible to play 162+ games at a championship or playoff level of play. It's about holding the mentality of not losing and responding to bad strides with W's anyway you can'em.
On another note, I hope Tabata comes up, and hits the -out of the ball. Worst, or best case scenario.. NH can shop him during the offseason.

The Pirates really need this upcoming day off. Hopefully they will get some much needed rest as they try to reclaim the last wildcard spot on Friday.
No excuse in getting swept by the Padres who somehow have the Pirates number. Very frustrating to see them be so inconsistent this month.

Agreed. I didn't have a good feeling going into this series, but i didn't think they'd get swept.

There is some hope for us...
Cardinals are playing a very tough schedule, mainly on the road, here on out.
LA has a brutal schedule, especially with nearly 25% of their schedule against the Giants; who have their number.
We face the Reds in the second to the last series of the season, at home. You think they're going to be playing Votto, Chapman, Phillips, etc., if they've clinched the division? Hell no. Plus, we then play the Braves, so wins there can mean the world for us if we're still extremely close.
McCutchen needs to wake up, Hurdle needs to trust his own instincts, and the defense needs to cut our pitching staff some slack. We still got this!

Two straight shutouts couldn't come at a better time against the Cards. They really needed to win this series to stay in it and they were able to. I still can't believe that they are still in the playoff race with Septmember just days away. Remarkable.
