Thanks for posting.
I've been researching this topic for awhile now, and it never gets easier to hear about some of the life long side effects players I watched growing up have to endure afterward. I hope Jeff keeps keeping his chin up and enjoying life with his kids as best he can.
To me, it's not about scapegoating, demonizing, or patronizing the players or the league...but to realize that for as many great things there are about the sport like teamwork and camaraderie, there's also so much of it that's just fundamentally messed up.
How the league has handled concussions is a major one of those messed up aspects, because the lower leagues all took a copycat approach; if it's good for the NFL, it was good enough for them....meaning that for every Jeff Herrod, there's 500 other guys you won't hear about suffering from the same mistreatment because their league followed the NFL's stance of minimizing or denying the issue. What Herrod is going through right now sucks. What Jaquan Waller's family had to go through is unfathomable. |
