| Sidney Rice wrote: | teammate Sidney Rice told Eric Williams of the Tacoma News Tribune. “He used to make big plays, jump up and throw the ball in the air and jump around – things like that. But I see him becoming more of a professional. He’s doing much better.”
These days, the ball goes back to the ref with a simple flip, no showboating. But more importantly, he’s making more plays. When Rice missed the end of the season because of concussions, Tate posted 19 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown in five starts, solid numbers after a lackluster start. |

I think Golden Tate is going to win this for me!
| Danny Kelly from Fieldgulls.com wrote: | As for the above mentioned Golden Tate, I would say that it would have to be a toss up between he and Doug Baldwin as to who had the most steady and impressive weekend performance of the receiver group. Tate looks like a man possessed, and grabbed impressive downfield throws several times on deep corner routes against the 2-man coverage soft spot - over the top of the corner and out of the range of the safety. He's shifty at the line and beats press seemingly with ease. He has the Butler 'drives like it's on rails' change-of-direction but is much more physical as a runner and in fighting for the football in the air. I've been reminded that Golden Tate has looked this way in training camp before and that's true, but combined with his strong finish last season, what I'm seeing looks like the probable answer at X-receiver.
I think his track record as a great downfield blocker further separates him from his competition but only time will tell if Golden can finally realize his potential, not on the practice field, but on game days. Right now, I'm optimistic that Tate can be that guy for the Hawks, but as I've said elsewhere, it's still very early. |

and, If you read the article Danny says something about and INT form Rookie Safety 'Malcolm Guy', I think it was a typo and he meant 'Winston' Guy, but anyway, that's my first report I've seen about Irvin's progress in Camp. _________________ Adopt-a-Hawk

I guess this also belongs in here.
Braylon Edwards new beginning
| Quote: | | Edwards also flashed his competitive nature on the field, jetlag and all. On a pass from rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, Edwards went over a defender to tip the ball along the sideline and then caught it as he was falling. |

Here's a short writeup of Fridays Practice by Bill Swartz of MyNorthwest.com that highlighted some plays by Golden Tate and Winston guy.
| Highlight of Golden Tate wrote: | | Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson had one of his best days of training camp. His pinpoint long pass down the sideline to receiver Golden Tate was the highlight play of the morning session at VMAC. Tate did not have much separation from safety Kam Chancellor, but hauled in the bomb over his shoulder and took it to the house. |
| Highlight of Winston Guy wrote: | | Rookie safety Winston Guy from Kentucky continues to look like a playmaker. He stuck his nose in several running plays, and has the speed to cover the deep ball. |

Adopt-a-Hawk, Week 1 recap
MVP
Russell Wilson
-You can say it was against the 2's, you can say it was the preseason, you can talk about him constantly escaping the pocket...but the fact of the matter is this: Russell Wilson made ONE bad play all night. His reads, timing, accuracy, pocket presence, zip and decision making was phenomenal. This kid didn't look like a 3rd round rookie. He completely stole the show in the 1st game of preseason and although it's just preseason...we won this game because of DANGERuss. The throw across his body on third down to charly martin, his educated risk in lobbing it up to edwards from the pocket, his ability to run up the field and elude defenders all night, escaping pressure and completing passes and bailing out his second unit pass pro all night was very impressive. This kid has a future not only on this team, but in the NFL. He has set a standard for himself in the 2nd game this saturday, where he will get the same opportunity
NotsoMVP
Bruce Irvin
-This is purely based off of not meeting expectations. Nobody really played horrible in the first preseason game, but irvin showed nothing that would warrant a first round selection. He looked real nice running around, and stumbled upon a run stuff on a blown blocking assignment...but did absolutely nothing outside of that. Was he handicapped by the coaching staff? It's possible. But again, based on what hawks fans wanted to see...this was a pretty big letdown
Winners
Jason Jones
Richard Sherman
Russell Okung
Braylon Edwards
Greg Scruggs
Breno Giacomini
Leon Washington
Heath Farwell
Losers
Anthony McCoy
Kris Durham
Alex Barron
Headed in the right direction
Matt Flynn

http://www.seahawks.com/news/articles/article-1/Thinking-secondary-first/d36bd83a-6f4c-4468-aec5-37833da5e234
| Quote: | | Best defensive player – Richard Sherman: This one is a near unanimous choice, despite the fact that he’s the only member of the secondary who did not play in the Pro Bowl after last season. He did go to Hawaii, however, as a guest of Thomas, Chancellor and Browner. |
| Quote: | | Best free-agent addition – Braylon Edwards: The late-arriving wide-out (he was signed July 31) quickly made up for lost time, and really turned up the volume on his game last week the day after Terrell Owens was signed. Edwards used his 6-3, 214-pound body to go up and over a defender on a 39-yard pass from rookie QB Russell Wilson in the preseason opener. He also has displayed elusiveness and deceptive speed in making similar plays in practice. Carroll is looking for a bigger target with big-play ability to replace Mike Williams at split end. Edwards is forcing Carroll to at least look his way. |

Aw, c'mon... just a *little* love for Sweezy? Kid's playing starting RG right now, isn't he? DT out of college and he may be starting for Moffitt on the OLine...
It's probably up to me to provide articles and such, but I just don't have the time, heh.
Fun to follow the relative unknowns during the preseason, though - cool idea.
