#Chargers have released veteran DL and former first round pick Luis Castillo.

The former first round pick only started all 16 games once in his 7-year NFL career and was limited to only 1 game last season. Injuries have limited his effectiveness and he was never able to return to the same form that got him career high 7 sacks in 2006.

I was hoping to have him on the roster come opening day as a reserve. That's what he was going to be on this depth chart and the way we need to see this release. I'm sad, I felt we were a better ball club with him but it's nice that we gave him a shot to start somewhere else.

Not particularly sad to see him go, considering his injury history, but liked the price tag he was playing at. I hope this means VM is finally able to grab, and hold onto, that starting spot!

Sounds like it was back issues, not performance

Free agent DE Luis Castillo is reportedly weighing whether to sit out 2012 due to recurring back issues.
Castillo is expected to take at least a couple of weeks to see if he can get back to full health. If his back cooperates, Castillo will attempt to catch on with a team that will give him more snaps than he was due to receive behind young talents Corey Liuget, Vaughn Martin and Kendall Reyes in San Diego this season.

Likely will be a Panther if his back gets better.

I don't think Wade 'made' him good. Sure he played his best when Wade was the DC here, but I don't think Wade leaving was the reason he fell off. His injuries in 2006/2007 basically reduced him from one of the best linemen in the game to a fringe starter.

He got to be an attacking DE. Look at JJ Watt (not saying Watt wouldn't succeed elsewhere, Wade is just using him like he did with Castillo it seems)

Could have been a decent backup....

Too bad it's due to injuries....

Love the guy, hope he can get back and play somewhere.
