| Quote: | | It was a long journey for Brooks to make it to the NFL, to the 49ers, and ultimately to the starting lineup in SF. With so many star performances it became easy to overlook the impact he made, but Brooks made the plays the 49ers needed him to make. During the offseason, both Lawson and LaBoy were lost in free agency and, though SF added Aldon Smith, Brooks would finally move to the front of the line and became an every-down LB for the 2011 season. Brooks brought pressure on 10.3% of his pass rushes which is pretty good. His problem was that he was only able to convert 12.3% of his pressures into sacks, where 3-4 OLBs typically convert 18.0%. Therefore, he did a good job at disrupting the QB throughout the season, but was only able to sack him seven times. Brooks was rarely a liability in the run game, and in a few games Brooks had a strong positive impact. Brooks had the fewest missed tackles per snap of all 3-4 OLBs with 900 or more snaps. He only had one game with a run defense rating below -1.0, and that was against the Giants at the end of the season |

I'd like to see him get somewhere in the 9 to 11 sack range this season
I think with aldon having the year he had last year, he's going to draw more attention from O-Linemen thus giving Brooks more shots at the QB. _________________ Patrick Willis Toilet paper

Im pretty sure that he had 400 or so career snaps before last season. So last season he more than doubled that (the article says he had over 900). This coupled with everything I have been hearing about how he is in the best shape of his career leads me to believe he will have a "breakout" season next year. There were a few times when he had mental lapses/mistakes in coverage (Idk why but he has problems covering the wheel route, but maybe that was a scheme issue) and I expect him to only improve on this considering the full offseason and such.
He has the potiential to be GREAT. right now he is only really good (not that there is anything wrong with that)
It wouldnt surprise me to have him lead our team in sacks
cant it just be august already _________________

Those wheel routes are brutal for LBs to have to contend with... especially the bulky type of LBs like Brooks matched up against more athletic TEs and RBs. Love the contract that Brooks signed. It is structured well, and should keep him highly motivated.

Fangio expects more sacks from Brooks. So does Brooks
| Quote: | | When a player signs a lucrative, long-term contract, there might be a tendency for him to exhale, to relax and to enjoy his newfound financial security. The six-year, $44.5 million deal Ahmad Brooks signed in the offseason has had the opposite effect, Vic Fangio said today. "He probably had his best offseason he's had in pro football," said Fangio. "... I think he's probably in the best shape of his life, at least his NFL life, and we're expecting a big season from him. We'd be disappointed if he doesn't." This year, Brooks hung around Santa Clara all offseason. Not only that, he fell in with the core group of 49ers workout warriors - Justin Smith, Ray McDonald and Parys Haralson chief among them - who would show up every day to train and lift weights. Brooks even augmented that routine by buying a membership at the local 24-Hour Fitness. |
