Any chance you can share some modern stuff you like so I can see the difference between stuff from the 90s to today? |
The V.S. is a pretty magical track man, gives me that rush like any amazing trance track should.
And for sure! Next couple tracks I post will be some of my favorite trance tracks from the last few years |
Awesome thanks man _________________

Missed yesterday, so I'll post 2 today. FLAJ, you gotta update the track list bro. Well, at least I don't see Zomboy on there so maybe you're only missing that one.
Knife Party - Fire Hive
Artist: Knife Party
Song Title: Fire Hive
Genre: Brostep
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdzQPSN2FvE
Release: 100% No Modern Talking
Release Year: 2011
Tempo: 70 BPM
Comments: Rocking the 140 bpm tempo like all classic dubstep, Fire Hive is a a Brostep gem. This songs hits hard and still has the dubby elements of UK Dubstep. I call it brostep over dubstep mainly because of the layered synth and leads on top of the beat and the wave of dubstep/time in which it came out. It can be mixed well in dubstep sets, even I used it in the dubstep mixtrain FLAJ and I made. Yes, that was a plug. Another beauty by Knife Party; you can expect a lot more of them in the thread as it goes on.
Edited for wrong tempo. Easy mistake to make. But it isn't B:055 now _________________

Hate myself for this.
deadmau5 - Some Chords
Artist: deadmau5
Song Title: Some Chords
Genre: Progressive House
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmfAZazJKXI
Release: 4x4=12
Release Year: 2010
Tempo: 128 BPM
Comments: I loathed deadmau5 for the longest time. I heard a story of him being a d bag and trying to get my boy Rusko in trouble with security due to smoking . I also heard tales of him flipping a ish when DJ's dropped his stuff in clubs. Like actually going up to them and flipping their turntables. Despite this, deadmau5 is a name you need to know about as far as electronic goes. I love to drop him in the background when I spin house. Usually just one 4 beat measure of a drum track. Gives everything that extra oomph. He isn't an easy listen for the most part since he's really minimalist, but when he progresses like he does in this track, watch out. _________________

Yes I know
And as for Deadmau5, truth be told i dont hate his earlier work. I thought he had some decent tracks overall, such as:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TschOQlL9-g
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2PM5iTlmRE
My gripes with him are the follows though:
1. Hes a bandwagoner, he loves to jump onto fads. He had a great progressive/trancey sound going for a while, even got featured on Armin Van Buuren's A State of Trance for it. Once he saw that electro was getting popular though he started making electro, once dubstep/brostep became trendy he jumped on that. Hes said he changed because he wanted to be a versatile artist but the timing leads me to believe its all about the $$$
2. DJ worship, one of my biggest gripes with the modern scene. Daft Punk did it, and they get a pass just cause theyre Daft Punk, but Deadmau5 has set up his shows to be a spectacle focused around him. With his masks and fancy light shows, pre arranged sets, etc... the focus is all on him rather than the music. People seem to go to "see" Deadmau5 rather than to "hear" Deadmau5
3. Greed, as you said he flips out at other DJ's playing his tracks, he also has an agreement with soundcloud where they will remove a persons mix if it features his tracks. He should be honored that young DJ's look up to him and want to use his songs. Nonetheless he charges a ridiculous fee to see him
4. Openly going out and criticizing DJ's, calling DJ's as a whole a bad word that i cant say on this site ( rhymes with grunts ). Dont hate on your fraternity
5. His productions simply arent that great IMO, he recycles the same drum paterns in every song, nearly everything hes made is 128 BPM on the dot, for example heres 18 deadmau5 songs played at once http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-B_KECcXIA
Dude had potential but fame and an unwarranted ego got to his head _________________

The next time a smiley face appears without sunglasses I will expect a badass one liner and some kind of electronica remix of Won't Get Fooled Again _________________

A more modern trance selection
Beat Service - Nectar (Juicy Mix)
Artist: Beat Service
Song Title: Nectar (Juicy Mix)
Genre: Trance
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL7B8ugesvo
Label: Ask4 Records
Tempo: 134 BPM
Release Year: 2008
Comments: Alot of people say trance is dead, I prefer to look at it as it changed form. While I like, and honestly prefer, the previous generation of trance music, there are still quality releases coming out today, just with a little different sound. Trance has become more of a fusion genre, DJ's are combining it with electro house ( Trouse which i personally dont like ) and then theres Tech Trance.
Tech Trance tends to follow the same rules as trance, faster BPM's, big melodies, but the tracks have a darker techier vibe to them. I remember hearing this track on Markus Schulz's 2008 Essential Mix and I was amazed by the melody that starts at around 3:30 in the video. One of my all time favorite tracks and I hope you all enjoy _________________

John Digweed - Gridlock (John Digweed and Nick Muir's 25 Minute Extended Mix)
Artist: John Digweed
Song Title: Gridlock (John Digweed and Nick Muir's 25 Minute Extended Mix)
Genre: Progressive House
Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdB82UeFWZA
Label: Renaissance Records
Tempo: 126BPM
Release Year: 2007
Comments: Digweed is the biggest name in the progressive scene and has been for years. Hes to prog what The Rolling Stones are to rock music, a massive name who got his reputation through years of quality releases. His sets have a perfect balance, harmonically perfect, the absolute right balance between ambiance and intensity. Seeing Diggers spin is definitely on my bucket list.
The 25 minute mix of Gridlock is his opus in a way and it sums up his sets perfectly. Its that mix of ambiance going on all around you brought together by a solid drum pattern and strong pass. Its progressive brought to its extremes, the buildups are twice as slow as usual, theres no rush in this track it progresses naturally and theres no sudden sharp turns. It moves gentle into its next phase and slowly builds. Its 25 minutes long but its 25 captivating minutes. I couldve posted the shorter mix but I ultimately wanted to prove a point with this, these days ( as much as I respect prog artists like Eric Prydz ) the genre's being to sped up. Its missing now what was the beauty of prog, those slow windy buildups. Sit back, have a glass of scotch and enjoy the journey _________________
