I personnally think this can be a great topic of discussion as some defenses, see the Steelers and Ravens, are continually great defenses, but are possibly getting older and have lost a major player respectively. Then, you have some defenses who could possibly be considered on the verge of being elite, in Jacksonville, Seattle, Kansas City, ...
So, let's start this and see how far we can go.
Which team do you think will have the best defense in 2012-2013?
And tell me which team I should add.

I think the 49ers. The top 5 should be in some order:
49ers
Jets
Ravens
Texans
Steelers |

This is a case of putting all the defenses that have been elite in the last few years but I personnally think we'll see at least one or two ''new faces'' in the top 5. |

It's just hard for me to see any 5 of these teams dropping out. The Ravens and Steelers are getting older, but I still can't see them falling that far. |

The Steelers are already falling, if last year is any indication.
I dont see much of a decline from the Ravens, 49ers, and Texans. I think those team should be very likely in the top 5. There is always a random team like the Jags every year who overachieves, so I think its really hard to predict that team who does that this year. I could see the Rams surprising a ton of people. They have a really good looking front 7 on paper, if they get better secondary play, I think they could be pretty darn good. Top 5 good, probably not, but I could see them being last year's Jags. |

49ers defense is complete. Almost all of their starters are some of the best at their position. Willis, Bowman, Smith, and Brooks make arguable the best group of LBs. Justin Smith is one of the best D-linemen in the NFL. Carlos Rogers and Dashon Goldson are in their prime as well. _________________

1. Niners
2. Texans
3. Jets
After that, its pretty open. Im not scared of the PIT and BAL defences going into next season. _________________ [quote="YoursTruly"]He doesn't get the ball because he is shut down. Zero seperation. The team that shut down the Falcons, Packers, and Patriots in the playoffs deserve mention.
For the poll I'm going 9ers... |

I think that's a good top 5 list. If we're looking for new potential defenses to join the top 5...i think the Chiefs and Seahawks have the best shot of making that jump. |

I think Texans, Jags, Eagles, Ravens, and 9ers all have a chance to be. _________________

The only problem for the defense of the Steelers last year, it was the turnovers. I not think that he can do worse for the turnovers
Otherwise if Polamalu, Woodley and Harrison are healthy, the Steelers will be easily in the top 5 _________________

No Bengal love? We ranked 7th last year and added a plethora of young talent on defence through the draft (Still, Thompson, Kirkpatrick) and added some nice depth players through FA (Jason Allen, Jamaal Anderson). We also lost our worst defensive link, Crocker. Dunlap, Johnson, Geno and Still are gonna wreak havoc on third downs. _________________ [quote="YoursTruly"]He doesn't get the ball because he is shut down. Zero seperation. I think the 49ers have it on lock for at least the next 2 years. They're young and just have incredible players at the most important positions. I'd put my Texans at second due to homerism and the fact that our front 7 is flat out amazing. The 2nd CB is a glaring weakness though. |

1) 49ers
--Best defense in the NFL last year, and there's no reason for that
to change
2) Texans
--Solid core of young players. Their defense can only get better.
3) Eagles
--Got rid of Asante so now they can play man coverage with two
of the best man to man CB's in the game. Huge upgrade at MLB
with Demeco Ryans, Cox upgrades their run d at DT. Most
people might disagree here, but their defense really played at an
elite level the last part of the season.
4) Chiefs
-Eric Berry is back, the the offense should be healthy (which will
take pressure off the D)
5) Ravens
--Ray and Ed are getting old, but their secondary is young with
huge potential. Ngata the best DT in the NFL. Loss of Suggs will
hurt but luckily they drafted Upshaw which will fill some of that
void. _________________
