FS Eric Berry

So The best defensive player in the AFC west doesn't even make the squad in Tamba Hali? and then the 2nd best player Derrick Johnson doesn't even make the top 5? That strikes me as odd.

Derrick Johnson is not the second best defensive player in the AFC West. Von Milller and Brandon Flowers are clearly better

Most people on here seem to agree he is the 2nd best player in the west behind Tamba. I am a chiefs fan and love flowers. I think flowers is a top 7 corner at worst. That being said DJ is better right now. Flowers could surpass him this year though. As for Von Miller, he plays a different position than DJ. DJ has been an elite ILB for the last 2 years. Miller has been an elite pass rusher for 1 year. I need to see it from him for 1-2 more years, but I do have Miller at # 4 on my list, which is high praise for a 2nd year player.

A top 3 ILB isnt a top 2 defender in the AFC West?Confused

For now DJ>>Flowers or Miller. I want to see more consistency out of Flowers & another year from Miller. If the Chiefs lost DJ the Defense would fall apart, he played the most snaps and was easily the defensive MVP.

NFC South:

1. Jon Beason
2. John Abraham
3. Charles Johnson
4.
5.

Honestly no other players truly stand out on defense for me in the NFC South. There are so many names that run together like Grimes,Anderson,Vilma, etc.

1. Darrelle Revis
2. Mario Williams
3. Vince Wilfork
4. Marcel Dareus
5. Cameron Wake

Berry and Weddle > Berry and Branch. I think that Berry could realistically be an All Pro safety at FS as well, but just take the All Pro and put the other young stud at his natural position. Wink

Branch is a good player, just not as good as the two others IMO.

Agreed. Berry could play free safety. After all he was the number 1 corner in the nation coming out of high school. He switched to safety in college. So needless to say he has the skill set to play free safety. I think it is just a scheme thing. In the KC scheme strong safety is the more important position as opposed to free safety. We use Berry like the steelers use Troy P. I am assuming the chargers use Weddle more like Ed Reed as opposed to Troy. Cant go wrong having a Strong safety like Troy or a Free safety like Ed. Now hopefully they have even similar careers to those two.

I don't think I would put Dareus over David Harris and Cameron Wake at this point.

Marcel Dareus is a stud. I don't need to wait for him to do it again this year to anoint him, he's a force already.

Wake and Harris have proved that they are studs in multiple seasons. Here's how I would rank them:

1. Darrelle Revis
2. Mario Williams
3. Vince Wilfork
4. Cameron Wake
5. David Harris
6. Kyle Williams
7. Karlos Dansby
8. Antonio Cromartie
9. Marcel Dareus
10. Jerod Mayo/Paul Soliai

People are overrating Mario, which isn't really new.

He's never been dominant for a full season, and never been healthy for a full season IIRC. Now, he is coming off a serious injury and who knows how he will recover and be able to move, moving forward.

Also, Dareus hasn't proved anything yet.

Kyle Williams, is again severely underrated. Last year he was banged up, but the year before he was statistically the best DL player in the NFL, even on a pretty bad team.

1. Revis
2. Wilfork
3. Kyle
4. Mario
5. Wake

For the NFC North, no order:

Jared Allen
Brian Urlachur
Julius Peppers
Ndamukong Suh
Charles Woodson

It was a tough choice between Woodson and Raji for the final spot. I love Raji's potential, but Woodson is still playing great football, hard not to go with the vet.

A bit off topic, but the NFC North Defense is pretty nasty.

LE Julius Peppers
DT B.J. Raji
DT Ndamukong Suh
RE Jared Allen
SLB Clay Matthews (hybrid Von Miller SAM/DE)
MLB Brian Urlachur
WLB Lance Briggs
LCB Charles Tillman
FS Louis Delmas
SS Morgan Burnett
RCB Tramon Williams
NCB Charles Woodson

I'm a bit more partial to the NFCW Defense because they're younger:
LDE: Chris Long
DT: Calais Campbell
DT: Brandon Mebane
RDE: Justin Smith
WLB: James Laurinaitis
MLB: Patrick Willis
SLB: Aldon Smith(same role)
CB: Cortland Finnegan
CB: Carlos Rodgers
CB: Patrick Peterson
CB: Richard Sherman
FS: Earl Thomas
SS: Kam Chancellor

That's scary. Could also play the 3-4. And consider how young the defense is.

The NFCW could legitimately have all 4 defenses rank in the top 15 in the NFL. Hell, they might get all 4 in the top 12.

And that would be ALMOST as good as an accomplishment as the AFCN that had all 4 defenses ranked in the top 10 last year! Razz

While were "boasting" division D players, and not lined up in 11 posititions...

Terrell Suggs
Haloti Ngata
Ed Reed
Ladarius Webb
Ray Lewis
Domata Peko
Geno Atkins
Rey Maualuga
Leon Hall
Reggie Nelson
Jabaal Sheard
Ahtyba Rubin
D'Qwell Jackson
Joe Haden
Casey Hampton
James Harrison
Lamar Woodley
Troy Polamalu
Lawrence Timmons
Brett Keisel

Just doesn't seem fair, does it...

But TBH, the NFC West does have some up and coming D players that are just sick, and it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see just what you posted to actually happen with the NFCW. AZ will be the key...they have the coaching, just need more impact players, IMO, but rest assured, Horton will get the most out of the talent he has.

I would have to agree with green24 on this. Marcel Dareus had a good rookie year but I don't believe he should be ahead of Wake and Harris. Kyle Williams on the other hand I would have above Harris and maybe Wake.

As f now my top ten would be.

1. Darrelle Revis
2. Mario Williams
3. Vince Wilfork
4. Cameron Wake
5. Kyle Williams
6. David Harris
7. Karlos Dansby
8. Jairus Byrd
9. Jerod Mayo
10. Marcel Dareus

with Antonio Cromartie right behind.

Chiefs fans are so funny... If you honestly think Derrick Johnson is a better player than Von Miller you are just fooling yourself's. I also have a problem with Eric Weddle being above Miller. He is not even close to an elite player. The Broncos have burned him on several occasions over the years. I NEVER got the hype on this guy.

Hali should be #1 and Miller should be #2... Von had 11 sacks in 13 weeks before breaking his hand. He was heavily in the DPOY argument when the Broncos won 7/8 games. Fell off when he broke his hand, but the guy was a flat out monster last season.
