So would I, but there's hardly a difference in the 31st worst and 32nd worst. |

For a LT, I would want a guy that can handle anything in pass protection. Whether hes going against a power rusher, a speed rusher, a leverage and technique rusher, I want the LT to have a chance to stop any type of rusher with the way rushers are moved around. Saffold apparently has a huge weakness against the bull rush, so why would you want that liability on the left side?
Hell, even look at some of the teams you play next year. The entire NFC North puts there speed rusher against the RT(Matthews, Avril, Robison, McClellin) and there more powerful guy against the LT(Allen, Peppers, Vanden Bosch, probably Perry). Not even to mention the fact that when you end up playing against a 3-4, Saffolds probably going against a 290-300 lbs. DE. You guys act like the LE is the more powerful rusher always. Its getting to the point where teams will just move their rushers around to get the favorable matchup. So if Saffold has a physical limitation that makes him susceptible to the bull rush(not strong enough it seems), then why would you risk a team exploiting that? I say leave Saffold on the left side this year by virtue that he is probably your best tackle right now, but if I had a tackle with as big a weakness as that, one that I felt they may never fix, I would put him on the right side just so that when a team tries to exploit that matchup, the QB can at least see it. But I would think that what Ive read about the Rams, LT should definitely be one of your first round picks next year. |
He doesn't. He doesn't have any physical limitations as a Left Tackle. His issues especially with the bull rush were technique related. Which is why bringing in Boudreau and letting Loney go is significant. |
Hey Jrry, I'm curious if you've ever happened to see Saffold in person. I've seen him many teams off the field and the truth is, he dosn't have a very large frame, or even body in general. I'm comparing him in that regard to guys I've also been around consistently. Pace, Jason Smith, Jacob Bell, Adam Timmerman, Andy McCollum to name a few.
I think he is a good tackle, but this packer fan here may have a good point. I agree 100 percent that finding another tackle is a priority next year. Unless they somehow fix Smith, which I think is a hell of a lot to expect. |
I have not. But his measurements are all ok for a NFL Left Tackle. He's ~6'5" 320 with ~34 inch arms and ~10 inch hands. All are pretty standard for a NFL LT. _________________

Per Rotoworld.
Not breaking news or anything that affects us but just figured id put it in here.
Getting back to our Oline, kind of random but id love if we got Barrett Jones next year.
And back to Saffold, I dont think he can be an Elite LT but if he stays healthy and gets a little stronger he can be solid. I love the fact that we restructured Smith's contract, now that we are paying him what he should be lets hope he plays up to his potential. |

How do Rams fans feel about drafting Isiah Pead with offensive lineman like Mike Adams,Peter Konz, and Kelechi Osemele on the board?
I think most would assume Roger Saffold and Scott Wells will play well next year. I am also still a Jason Smith fan, if he stays healthy i think he can solidify a spot on that line. So with him healthy that would be 3 solid starters. There was a chance to fill a hole at guard but you didn't.
How do you guys feel about that? |

I feel fine about it. Konz is the only 1 of the 3 named that I would have considered over Pead. But we needed a guy with Pead's skill-set. _________________

As much as I live Pead, i would have preferred doing something different with that pick. I mean, at 45 (before we traded with chicago or Jeffery) Jeffery, Randle, Osemele were on the board. I dont care about Adams or Konz but i was and still am a tad upset with the fact we picked Quick at 33 when Glenn was still there.
I would have done the draft a little differently but i trust Fish n Snead. |

I'm not disagreeing but we're not talking about those picks, we're talking about #50. I did a hindsight draft and definitely did it differently from the way the Rams did it. I did:
#14 - Brockers
#33 - Jeffery
#39 - Jenkins
#50 - David
#65 - Hillman
#96 - Givens
#150 - Watkins
#171 - Zuerlein
#209 - Frederick
#252 - Polk _________________

He quit solely due to the lack of interest of playing football.
So last year, we had two guys (Bell, Brown) on the offensive line that really didn't give a damn about anything. Pretty clear they played for the big money and nothing else. Definition of terrible free agent signings. _________________

Just....wow. I wonder if this "coincidence" between the two is really that at all. We've complained for years about the lack of passion on this team. I think it had become cancerous. It started with Marc Bulger, IMO, and continued with the likes of Wroten, Byrd, and others. _________________

He's listed at 6-5? LOL. That's a joke. He may be 6'3, and he may be 300 pounds judging by the eye. I'm not kidding Jrry, unless he's made of iron ore, those measurements have to be inflated.
I'm basing his size on having seen him in a STL restaurant over a dozen times in 2011. Once, he was sitting next to S-Jax at the bar, and I didn't even think he was an NFL lineman. I had to ask someone who he was. _________________

Nah, he checked in at the combine at just under 6'5" and 316 pounds. Rams list him at 6'5" 323 I think.
I mean maybe you just kind of had this idea that he'd be bigger? Not sure. I brought home a friend of mine who is a NFL LB and my mom thought he was just a buddy of mine from work. She didn't think he was a big enough to be a NFL LB. And he's a big guy, 6'3" 240+.
Maybe we just set the bar too high on our expectations? I don't know. Or maybe he really is not that big. I know Jacob Bell was smaller than listed. I think he was listed at 6'5" 305 but was more realistically around 6'3" to 6'4" and in the 280 to 290 range.
There are also some players much heavier than their listed weight. _________________

I don't know what you are talking about saying Saffold isn't that big. I have met him at IU many times, as a guy who himself is just a shade under 6'3" himself Roger was plenty taller than me, and has quite the frame on him.
You can't fake Combine measurements like you can college listings. He isn't the size of Orlando Pace but he is plenty big. I believe it was also reported that he has already bulked up (not getting fat) during his rehab.
Also, for the LAST time, every team that looked at Saffold in the draft was looking at him as a LT, EVEN the Rams. We said it from the beginning that we didn't know where he was going to play because he was a LT and we thought we had already drafted ours. We didn't take him because we thought he was a RT, it was the fact that the value was too high not take him and find a spot on the terrible line we had to help out.
His natural and best spot is LT, anyone who knows about Offensive Lineman can see that fairly clearly. |

i agree with jrry i think sometimes we have high expectations on what an nfl player looks like but in reality they are not that far off from the average( or at least above average) person.
which is why, and i know this is way off topic, i believe nba players are the better athletes. _________________ Rams Rams Rams

There's your problem. I remember the first time i saw Steven in person. In my opinion, he's the only player in the NFL whose measurements are understated. A lot of guys are wider and taller.. but I remember going to training camp for the first time and remembering just how much #39 stood out as the biggest all around guy in the huddle. I thought Sjax was closer to 6'3-4 250 than his listed 6'2 235-40. _________________
