Rhett Ellison [TE] USC
6'5
251 lbs
rSR
Quote: | Strengths: Ellison is a versatile option with experience lining up on the line of scrimmage as a tight end, in the backfield at fullback and out wide as a receiver. He is a quick athlete and is usually sure-handed as a receiver. Ellison is a much improved route runner, creating space in coverage. He is a highly competitive player and quickly gets to the perimeter, blocking well in space and at the second level. Ellison is strong at the point of attack and plays with considerable toughness. He plays on special teams coverage as well and shows up any time he's on the field, playing every play as if it's his last -- a true hustle player. Ellison has good
bloodlines as his father was an all-conference linebacker at USC and then later in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Raiders.
Weaknesses: Ellison has only average size and power for the position and won't overwhelm with his strength at the next level. He doesn't break many tackles or do enough after contact. Ellison will have his share of drops with inconsistent focus and too often tried running with the ball before the catch. He needs to play more disciplined and control in the moment. Ellison wasn't used to a large degree most of his career and was just a small part of an explosive offense. Despite not missing any games the last two seasons, he has some durability concerns after suffering two separate leg injuries in 2011.
NFL Comparison: Joel Dreessen |

What the heck? Spielman undoing some halfway-decent work the past two days.
This is a horrible pick. _________________

OVERVIEW
Ellison is a hybrid fullback/tight end who could play either role in the NFL. He is the beneficiary of a light tight end class in 2012, projecting to be one of the first off the board. A bruiser with a punishing frame, Ellison is a reliable blocker, both in-line and out of the backfield. He displays the same consistency in his pass-catching skills, both out of backfield and working upfield. Ellison likely will be selected in the middle rounds of the draft by a team looking for a physical player who can bring a workman-like attitude to the facility.
ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS Ellison is quick off the line of scrimmage for his size and understands how to stem to avoid jams. He is a decent route runner who will get covered but can separate at the top of routes. He catches nearly everything thrown to him is a very good in-line blocker.
WEAKNESSES Ellison is not very fast, nor is he a quick-twitch athlete. This is evident when he is running deep routes and trying to work upfield. He labors to move at times and can struggle in hard cuts on his routes.

With all the holes like MLB, S, WR, and DT.
They take a damn fullback. This part of the draft is starting to suck _________________

Good pick gentlemen. The hardest working player on the Trojans this year. Great blocker, and willing to do anything to win. Used to be a TE until we needed him at FB.
Team honors this year: captain, lifters award, and leadership award. _________________

First pick I don't like. H-back type, good blocker, solid catcher. Not a great pick for what we need, though.

Mike Mayock speaks very highly of him. _________________

Awful pick, in terms of value and team need. _________________ Wins are a team stat, not a QB stat |

We have some fickle fans. It'll take some time for them to warm up to this one. |
