Bill Parcells is certain to remain retired and not serve as the Saints' interim head coach, per sources. More coming on ESPN.

While I think it would have been a fun ride, if not an interesting one, I still think Carmichael will run the show, and Vitt takes over when he returns from suspension.

I tend to agree with NSF. It's better to promote from within anyway.

They're saying Joe Vitt is the leading candidate, but we'd need an interim interim head coach for the first six games... I hope the front office is just trying to mess with us because this seems insane.

Go with Carmichael or Spags please...

I don't like the guy either. I still wouldn't want him as the interim HC even if he wasn't suspended. He just rubs me the wrong way and the fact he was in the defensive meetings and basically did nothing about.... FIRE HIM! I prefer Spags to be honest.

Spags makes sense in so many ways. Let Carmichael concentrate on the offense. Vitt should IMO be fired/replaced for his role in the bounty scandal.

Vitt is an awful LB coach...so I don't see how he will be anything more than a mediocre head coach. Promoting Spags to HC is out of the question. He needs to focus on his first year of building the defense. I know that the Saints want to win this year...but Spags as head coach would really hurt the progression of the defense going into future seasons. Carmichael makes the most sense...but only if the Saints have someone on staff that can step in as OC and do a decent job. Just because Payton does a great job as both HC and OC...that doesn't mean just anyone can do it. It is extremely hard to do.

I still don't get how Vitt got a lesser suspension then Payton and Loomis even though he played the biggest role with the defense these past few years

He isn't in a position of authority over other coaches, like Payton and Loomis are.

I would like to give Spags as much time as he needs to get the defense where he wants it. The guy already had a lot on his plate before all this, making him HC would just be more.

I think you give it to Carmichael, wasn't Carmichael interviewed by a team for their HC job this year?

I would give it to Kromer. Guy is a awesome O-Line coach and I think he could be a good HC.

I personally would prefer firing Vitt and bringing in a guy with linebacker experience and HC experience to be LB Asst HC/Interim...
