I agree that Jeffery is similar to Fitz. If he gets that same fire (which he claims to understand now) I would be 110% for drafting him at #19. To have BMarsh and Jeffery(Fitz) on the same team!! Shocked

Looks like we aren't the only ones with no real idea where this pick is going lol...

Quote:
Bucky Brooks believes that the Bears will select North Carolina defensive end Quinton Coples.

"The Bears are in the market for a young, athletic pass rusher to play opposite Julius Peppers," Brooks writes. "While Coples’ lackadaisical effort has been cited as a concern, Rod Marinelli could transform the talented rusher into a terror in Chicago's attacking scheme.”

Quote:
Charley Casserly is predicting that the Bears will take Illinois defensive end Whitney Mercilus, writing: “Despite only one productive season at Illinois, Mercilus has great pass-rush potential at the next level.”

Quote:
Charles Davis feels that the Bears will pick Notre Dame receiver Michael Floyd, writing: “The Bears addressed receiver with the trade for Brandon Marshall, but it'll be tough to pass on another outside weapon for Jay Cutler if Floyd's still available at this spot. Left tackle is also an area of need.”

Quote:
Chad Reuter expects the Bears to choose South Carolina cornerback Stephon Gilmore, writing: “In the past three drafts, the second cornerback was drafted at the 25th (Vontae Davis, Dolphins), 20th (Kareem Jackson, Texans) and 19th (Prince Amukamara, Giants) selections. So even though Gilmore has the potential to go much higher, the Bears might be surprised to see his name still on the board.”

For once I hope Bucky is right.

I do not know what to make of this pass rusher group as all of them have major question marks.

Coples, work ethic and intensity.

Ingram, size.

Upshaw, athletic ability.

Perry, stiffness and ability against the run.

Mercilus, can he play the run and can he rush consistently.

No doubt they all have question marks...but that could be said for 95% of the draft lol...these guys also have a ton of talent and we have to hope we have the people in place to grab the right guy and help him with those weaknesses.

I am hoping that Ingram or Coples fall to us as they are the only guys who I think step in Day 1 and are starter for us.

Maybe Upshaw, but I do not see 1st round upside.

Mercilus and Perry look like situational players right now and would need to do some work to start.

If the draft shakes out like this I would vote Whitney Mercilus. With Izzy back on a one year deal Mercilus can learn from a pro like that and rotate in and stay fresh. Plus you have the best D-line coach and Peppers is one of the top 5 DEs in the game. I realy like his his talent and potential.

Spot on.

I commented earlier how the NFL web site scouting on many of the defenders we are looking at is so harsh I wondered how most of them even managed to play D1 ball.

The only way I see Coples falling to us if a bad draft day slide hits and then maybe he's not worth it at 19, but he seems like the best combo of production and potential. Mercilus is more likely to be there for us and he is a high risk - reward type. I really want a good starting defender from this draft, but it may take some luck to have it be a DE.

It seems like you all are mentioning receiver alot. With that said, I think many of you would like the Bears to pick Kendall Wright if they go the receiver route.

While Wright is a very good WR, I think only a few of us would really choose him at #19. Jeffery and Hill would be preferred in the first round. I was all in on Hill, but the more I watch of Alshon Jeffery the more I want him to be a Bear!

I keep going back and forth between Wright and Jeffery. I think I'm leaning towards Jeffery.

Yeah, I'd take Jeffery over Wright. (right now) lol

I just want a weapon in the passing game and while Floyd and Blackmon will be long gone I would take

Wright
Hill
Jeffery
Fleener
Randle

We need another weapon to keep teams from double teaming Marshall.

The nice part of Alshon and Fleener is that we can probably move down and move around, possibly back up for the pass rusher that we want.

*The Bears trade 1[19] to Denver for 1[25] and 3[89].

1[25] TE Coby Fleener [Stanford]/WR Alshon Jeffery [South Carolina]

*The Bears trade 2[50] and 3[80] to NY Giants for 1[32]

1[32] DE Chandler Jones [Syracuse]

3[89] OG Brandon Washington [Miami]

4. LB Keenan Robinson [Texas]

5. CB Omar Bolden [Arizona St]

6. DE Tim Fugger [Vanderbilt]

7. S Damien Jackson [Ole Miss]

Doesn't quite add up on the draft value chart.
