The film opened in 3,438 theaters at #2 with $25,003,575, behind Immortals, which debuted in the top spot with $32,206,425.[11] The film has grossed $73,837,886 in the United States and Canada and $51,100,000 in other territories, for worldwide gross of $142,251,636 against its $79 million budget.

So how does this happen? Is the average intelligence of movie goers comparable to a door knob? That so many people go to the movies just for the sake of going to the movies, so all it takes is one recognizable name and a decent promotional budget? I'd say both. _________________ Equal Opportunity Hater

Guess it depends on how you define "legend" in this case. IMO, if you make a major impact and your accomplishments and success will be remembered fondly for those accomplishments, you are at least somewhat of a legend. Will he be remembered as one of the greatest actors in Hollywood? No, but he was a huge part of Generation X's youth and as I said, had amazing success, even if he didnt have all hits. | That's like saying Michael Bay is a legend.
Adam Sandler has MANY more misses than hits. Not a single one of his movies would ever touch any respectable movie reviewer or studio's best comedy list. That's not a legend. Bill Murray, Steve Martin, and Gene Wilder are legends. |
Steve Martin has made some atrocious movies. _________________

Throw in some other movies that I don't really like but are critically acclaimed like Roxanne and Parenthood and you have yourself a career for the ages that towers over Sandler's. _________________

I would say it is that and the fact that this movie was designed to cater to the whole family and not just a specific age group or demographic. When you look at some of the more recent family films that have come out, despite sub-par reviews, the majority of these films have gone one to surpass their operational budgets.
4 people in a family going to see 1 bad movie will always generate more revenue than 2 people going to see 1 good one. _________________

That's astounding. Like most others a 15 second preview was enough reason for me not to see this. _________________

it's also fair to say Steve Martin's comedy on SNL was far funnier and will last longer than anything Sandler did there.
nor will Sandler be invited back as a guest host there 15 times. _________________

...i wouldn't say that. maybe if you're old you'd say that- just cause YOU are older, and it has been around longer.
the Steve Martin SNL DVD has a 3 and a half star rating, where the Adam Sandler has a 4 and a half star rating.
btw- Martin was never a cast member. _________________

Adam Sandler hasn't made a good comedy in about 10 years, and that's being generous. |
What's funny is he keeps making profitable films, at least at a sufficient enough level where he keeps getting the opportunity to pump them out.
Just Go With It made 214 Mill worldwide, and at a 55% return rate, 118 Mill on an 80 Million budget.
Grown-Ups had supposedly the same budget as the above but grossed over 50 Million more.
And of course, ironically, his best comedy of the last five years, Funny People, was a box office failure.
Even Zohan turned a small profit.
Conclusion? The general public likes crap.
Although I will say I thoroughly enjoyed Click but time travel movies in general always get me. _________________ Legends Never Die. They Breathe Through The New Generation.

I watched Jack and Jill. It isn't a great comedy by any stretch of the imagination, but I've seen far worse. If Jill wasn't so damn annoying, it might even have been an enjoyable but stupid comedy.
I think the Razzies did this for publicity though. They gave David Spade a razzie despite only being on screen for a minute, they also gave this the 'worst remake/rip off catagory, as a rip off of Glen and Glenda. _________________

They gave everyone involved with that movie a Razzie because of just how bad it was. Just from the trailer you could see how awful that movie was going to up, and just about everyone in the world agreed it was pure crap. _________________

I saw a preview and decided I wasn't gonna see it. It looks AWFUL!
However, Adam Sandler used to make hilarious movies. Nowadays, they're not for me. _________________
