Tulloch in my opinion. |
Kind of the way I was leaning as well, but I haven't seen enough of Tulloch to really say it with any conviction. I think Tulloch is better in coverage but I love Loftons mean streak and nose for ball. |
Look, I completly get the whole "coverage" concern here but the Saints are obviously looking for a THUMPER on the inside and if that is the case then Lofton is the best on the market!
Sadly I think he'll be a lil to rich for Loomis's taste but Joe Mays I feel is the same type of player on the verge of being on Loftons level and could be had at a cheaper price... almost like the whole Nicks/Grubbs debate, Mays might turn out to be a lil cheaper and not much drop off in talent.
I'd love Mays but would perfer Lofton at the right price! |
That's a huge dropoff in talent. Mays is nowhere near as talented as Lofton. _________________

We'd agree to disagree... Mays is just as talented in my opinion. Yes Lofton is better but I feel Mays is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential where Lofton may have maxed out already.
Still... I'd love either one but yes Lofton over Mays. _________________

sheesh, seems like everyone in the NFC South so far has interest in Lofton.
was easily one of my favorite current Falcons, leader of our defense, the guy means a lot more to the team than just what he gives you at the Middle Linebacker position. |

Is it just me or does anyone else get the sense that after reading this article Curtis Lofton seems about to be getting the full court press from the Saints?
| Quote: | Falcons middle linebacker Curtis Lofton, is slated to visit New Orleans late today when Spagnuolo returns from an overseas trip and the entire Saints coaching staff is on hand, according to a league source.
|
So Spags wasen't around for the Hawthorne/Mays visit but will be here for Loftons along with the ENTIRE Saints coaching staff...
Intresting, this meeting was scheduled about 3-4 days ago, likley knowing that this is when Spags would be back from his trip. Could this indicate taht Lofton is Spags guy?
Could Spags close the deal for us here?
Stay tuned... _________________

Well there was a tweet I saw last night that Lofton was in New Orleans last night. He had a contract offer from the Bucs, but wanted to play west of Atlanta.
I'm scared of signing Lofton. It's not that he's a bad player or anything, but the fact that he's not amazing coverage wise.
I want Hawthorne due to his sublime abilities to cover.
I'm sure if we wanted to, we could squeeze cap space out and sign him, but I'm not sure if we could sign other players that we need/I want ( ).
We'll see what happens. _________________

I as well feel Hawthorne is the better overall player due to his coverage ability. I also feel that I'd rather have the guy that Spags feels is the right fit in his scheme.
As I think back, Spags two most successful defenses had enforcers on the inside who were great run stuffers but also were considered liabilities in coverage in Trotter with Philly and Pierce in New York.
To me... Lofton is a more athletic Trotter.
Hawthorne may be the better player but seems like Lofton may be the better fit. _________________

Then there were two...
Mays resigns with Broncos
Hawthorne visiting with Lions
Lofton getting full court press from Saints but has standing offer from Bucs

| I think that the Saints would love to upgrade the position but simply don't have the money to do it. Look for JLD and Shanle to be back. |

Does anyone have any new info on this? I know the visit was yesterday but I would think that something should be known by now. Did he leave already without a contract or is he still in town working on a contract. I am chomping at the bits to have a signing that would upgrade our defense. _________________

Working a contract I presume. You don't stick around in a city for a visit just for giggles.
So that's good news. The problem is, I still don't know how we're going to fit both of them under the cap, with or without cutting Vilma.
Add to that, Lofton is a great LBer, but we still don't have someone who's great at coverage.
We'll see, interesting times ahead. _________________

CS,
Theres always a way...
Cuts, Restructuring, etc. if it makes your ball club better do it.
Possiable cap moves include the release of
Vilma
Shanle
Herring
Strief
Henderson
Thomas
Restructure or extend
Ellis
Bushrod
Harper
