After Avril gets tendered, we sign him to a long term contract for 5 years 42MM with 15 guaranteed
we resign Calvin for 8 year, 125MM with 50 guaranteed
With some cap space opened up by the CJ and Avril signings, we are able to resign Tulloch to a 4 year, 26MM contract with 8 guaranteed
Resign Wright for 2 years 4.5MM
No free agent signings worth noting
DRAFT
1st- TRADE! Lions trade their 1st, 2nd, and 5th for Arizona's 1st
- Melvin Ingram, DE
After a mini-fall, Mayhew sees too much value to pass up on Ingram. With a superb bull rush, spin move, instincts, and versatility Ingram becomes the last key to what is to become the best DL in the league. He gives our DL much more versatility with his ability to play inside and rush from a LB position (which we finally take advantage of )
3rd- Omar Bolden, CB
The bump-and-run corner our defense covets, Bolden is athletic with good recovery speed and ball skills that will pay dividends for the Lions.
4th- Garth Gerhart, C
Plays with the passion you like to see in a OL'man, finds a way to get it done despite not being the biggest or most athletic guy on the field. Sits behind Dom for a year or two, and after putting on 10-15 pounds becomes our C of the future
6th- Chris Owusu, WR
A shifty receiver that runs good routes, Owasu falls due to concussion concerns. Mayhew has shown not to be scared off by these concerns and takes a risk that could pay big dividends if he stays healthy. Owusu will become our eventual return man.
7th- Tank Carder, LB
Going to contribute his rookie year on special teams because of his high motor, will probably never see the field but becomes a ST ace for us _________________

You beat me to the punch mocking a trade up for Ingram
Man I love that guy though. I think he may be the best DE in this draft. I dont know some of the other names though. |

I'm not sure I can get on-board with the Ingram trade. The only way I envision a trade is if it's someone tantalizing at a position we really need. Maybe if we were talking about Morris Claiborne, but I think we all know that's not going to happen.
The FA approach is pretty spot-on though, except I have a feeling we'll be getting Jeff Backus instead of Eric Wright. _________________

Adding a stud DE to Suh, Fairley and Avril would be pretty nice, in my opinion. Schwartz has shown that he's willing to add to strengths. _________________

Why would we trade up (especially so far and for so much) to draft a DE (tweener) when you resigned Avril long term? _________________

He's not a tweeter. Avrils a tweeter and he's more 43 type than Avril.
And so he could play RE. _________________

Avril is bigger at 6'3 260 than Ingram at 6'1 264. How is Avril a Tweener when reports are that Ingram would thrive just as much in a 3-4 as Avril would. _________________

I thought Ingram was 270+.
Regardless, Ingram has a bigger repertoire of moves and is more thick and powerful than Avril. _________________

Because both will see the field at the same time.
It's not like I picked Poe _________________

Ewwww
Sorry, I watched about three tapes of Melvin Ingram today . Now that I've done my research I don't see a natural 4-3 DE but think he can be pretty good as a 3-4 OLB. His strengths are the swim and the spin move to my eyes. I would prefer someone else in the 1st; I give Ingram about a 3rd round grade in the 4-3.
Perry is the only natural 4-3 DE I really see that I have a first round grade on; Coples I still have to make a decision on (only have seen one tape) and I have yet to watch tape of Andre Branch. To be determined.
But I'm not sold on Ingram as a 1st round 4-3 DE. _________________ Football is love, love is life. |
