How does everyone feel about Sanu? In the games Rutgers games I watched (mainly against USF and in the Insight bowl) he tore it up. I normally wouldn't think we would even consider drafting him, but Schiano recruited and coached this kid and he seems interested.
He isn't an explosive deep threat and I personally feel he has major bust potential (Mike Williams with the Lions). Wouldn't like it we spent more than a 3rd on him. |

He's got size and plucks the ball but is so slow, it makes me back off. If Schiano takes him, he must REALLY like him. I could see him slipping to the third. |

If we didn't have the receivers we already had and needed a possession/#2 type guy maybe, and even then idk. I have zero interest in him. _________________

I don't think we're good enough at this point to cross out any prospect due to what we have. Schiano has 0 connection with these guys. If he feels can carry his success to the next level... he'll do it. MW can be a thousand yard guy or he be Clayton .2. Is Benn just not that good, or is it his injury/Olson holding him back? Are Parker/Briscoe gonna get better than this? And like you said, it's no secret we need speed. Sadly there's a lot questions about this team, and due to poor coaching we don't know if a lot of guys are just bad or just not utilized to their full potential. |

Who really knows, he might give our roster a year to see if his style will help some guys games or we could see major changes right away. If people think Richardson is a luxury pick because we have Blount and what Blount could potentially turn into with proper coaching and opportunity, I would thing that x1,000 with our receivers. Heck even the te position, some don't think it's high on the board, maybe 2nd round would be a "waste". From what I have seen and read I just don't think Sanu skill wise, athletically, explosiveness, brings anything additional to our team that we don't already have. Greg already said he thinks they are all #2 type guys, I don't see Sanu as a "#1" guy and think our 2nd rnd pick would be better used on another guy or position. _________________

I like him a lot. I think he's the 5th best WR prospect in this draft (only behind Blackmon, Floyd, Jeffery and Wright). He's a bigger version of TJ Houshmandzadeh, IMO.
He has a huge catch radius and he knows how to get open. Despite his lackluster long speed, he's a much better athlete than he gets credit for. A very reliable target that will give max effort all of the time.
If he slips to our 3rd round pick I would be all for it. Every WR on our team not named Briscoe or Parker regressed/disappointed last season. Adding more talent to this position has to be a priority.
I hope that we can address our lack of speed this offseason as well, but considering all of our needs that may be asking too much. _________________

If we go after any WR, it should be a true #1 guy. We have seriously, 3 guys on our team, Briscoe/Williams/Benn that are more suited for the #2 role.
DRD, Briscoe really progressed and I always liked his future in this league as a very good #2 option. Benn is more of a Percy Harvin Role and can be better in the slot against small CBs and can do damgage in space. I think coming back from his ACL injury was difficult. He didn't get the off-=season to rehab with the team staff and doctors and trainers. It usually takes a full year to fully get comfortable with cuts, plants, etc on the knee.
Mike Williams was horrendous last year. Drops, bad routes, slow off the LOS, . You name it. He couldn't do anything. We lack a true #1 guy in Tampa. I don't want someone like Sanu. He'd only be adding to #2 guys who can't get down field. We need someone like Blackmon or Floyd in the draft or Vincent Jackson in FA. |

What are the chances were going to get one of them though? Lets just get some guys who can separate and catch first. I'm not saying that's Sanu, but we shouldn't back off WR prospects outside of Blsckmon/Floyd just because they aren't sure bet #1's. |

Agreed. If he's BPA in round 3 then grab him. Not every pick is going to be a star. _________________

The "true #1 WR" title means little to me. Colston is the #1 WR in New Orleans and he was 3rd on his team in receptions. Jennings is the #1 WR in Green Bay and Jordy Nelson outproduced him across the board. Do the Eagles even have a true #1 WR? It hasn't stopped them from putting up great numbers these last two years.
You may be looking for a true #1 WR, but I'm looking for guys that can consistently contribute.
If we have 3 guys on our team that are "more suited for the #2 role" then we should have a pretty prolific passing attack when we go 3 wide, right? Well, we don't. These guys don't consistently separate, they don't go up in the air and attack the ball and they drop way too many passes (Benn and Williams mostly). I don't know what we have in our WR corps, and that scares me. This is a big year for Freeman and we need to put better weapons around him.
There is a reliability to Sanu's game that I really like...especially in the short-to-intermediate game. He just gets it done. There is no doubt in my mind that he can help this football team. _________________

I don't think we should back off others either. Why not target Stephen Hill, for what we are lacking, and what he physically has to offer, it's almost a perfect match. Idk if he will be around when we pick in the second but if he is I hope we are pulling the trigger.
There is a ton of guys we can target at the wr position that could help us and be had a little later on, Givens, Joe Adams, Jarius Wright, A.J. Jenkins to name a few.
Of the three guys that we have been linked to Claiborne, Richardson and Blackmon, Blackmon is the least I want. Would he be a help from day one, sure. Being listed at 6'1" and 220ish and showing up at the combine 207lbs seems odd. He's probably trying to cut weight to run good at his pro day. I red mini-tron a few posts up when talking about Blackmon, as in Calvin Johnson - Megatron? Should of read mini-mini-tron. Dez went late when he was drafted, runs faster, jumps higher, bigger body, longer arms. We pick a guy at wr 5, he has to be one if not more, be a blazer, be huge, be a sick route runner. Blackmon is none of them. We take a wr at 5 I want him to walk in the combine, puff his chest out, and not be scared of what he is about to run! Floyd cough, cough.
He will help day one, and I would welcome him with open arms but I have Claiborne and Richardson way higher on my wish list. Kuechly isn't far behind. _________________

From Pro Football Weekly's profile of Blackmon:
| Quote: | | Elected not to run or jump at the Combine, only benchpressing 225 pounds 14 times, and did not impress NFL executives with his unimposing physique or knowledge of the game during the interview process. Though an exceptional football player, he lacks elite physical traits. |
If Wright improves his 40 time at his Pro Day, he and Floyd may jump Blackmon in the draft. |

| Sanu is Rejus Benn like as a player. Not really a polished receiver but a good athlete that still has room to learn. I'll pass. |

As far as Egnew at Mizzou, I doubt we are even looking at him. Dominik said earlier this offseason that he traded up for Stocker bc of a perceived weak 2012 TE class, and Tampa's head midwest scout lives in Columbia, Missouri. It wouldn't even be a trip for them to attend.
I'd say if anything they are interested in a guy like Dominique Hamilton (DT) or an offensive lineman.
I'm from Columbia, Missouri btw. _________________

Thing is, I think we have that reliable #2 guy that can get open, run crisp routes, and make catches in Dez Briscoe. He really showed improvement and to me, was our best WR. It sickened me he didn't recieve more playing time because Olson for some odd reason thought Williams, Benn, and Parker were performing better.
We need a guy who's reliable and can create seperation and get open. Floyd and Blackmon fit that bill and many more. Both are playmakers who are strong and can fight for jump balls and win 90% + of the time.
The only difference I see between the two is I've seen Blackmon, when it's needed by his team, to just simply dominate and take over games and just seems to be unstoppable at those moments. That to me shows an elite prospect. Watch the Stanford game, just as an example. |
